Saturday, 12 May 2012 Having grown dissatisfied with his work, world-famous Australian painter Brad Morahan (James Mason) settles on an island in the Great Barrier Reef inhabited by the witch-like Ma Ryan (Neva Carr-Glyn) and her granddaughter Cora (Helen Mirren). A child of nature who prefers to swim in the nude, Cora steals whatever she can in order to support herself and her gin-soaked grandmother. And when the young woman poses for Morahan, not even the theft of $300 by drifter Nat Kelly (Jack MacGowran) can diminish Brad’s renewed passion and excitement for his work.
Following a fight with Cora and a quarrel with Brad, Ma Ryan accidentally falls from a cliff and dies, leaving both painter and model fearing they will be accused of murder…
