Previous Episode: The Block Season Five – Launch
Last night, Dan & Dani became the first couple to enter The Block after beating out Brad & Courtney. Who will be the second?
Tonight, NSW’s Lara & Brad will face off against QLD’s Jessie & Larry.
They all meet each other at the BRH. Jessie & Larry are a father daughter team. Jessie was supposed to audition with her mother, who tragically died in a plane crash. Luckily, her father was all too happy to audition instead.
Tonight’s challenge is EXACTLY the same as last night’s. They will be judged on their design, functionality and execution of a room makeover inside the house. They pick up their hero object, which is a rug- which looks quite ugly. Still, the judges picked it, and it is worth $5,000.
Brad & Lara decide to do a guest bedroom. Jessie & Larry decide on a reading room/dining area.
Opinion point: Which room sounds most intriguing?
Both teams go out shopping, but no one is buying anything to renovate with. Lara goes back to paint after four hours into the challenge. Larry & Jessie are also back at the BRH deciding on paint colour. Jessie wants to go a shade darker, but her father won’t have it.
Afterwards, the boys take over with the painting while the girls go out shopping. Larry isn’t too happy with the paint colour afterall, and Brad soon begins to panic about his white colour. Lara is annoyed at his change of heart. For Jessie, she is freaking out when Larry tells her to go ahead and change the paint. To make matters worse, her phone goes dead. Lara grabs her paint before the shop closes, thank GOD! Jessie doesn’t. She goes behind the shop and the man opens up the back door for her and gives her the right paint- making her day!
Brad doesn’t seem to like the new colour, and they don’t end up using it. Like last night, both their paint colours are exactly the same! How will their furniture differ?
Opinion point: Is white paint a too big a risk?
After the break, its day two and they’re all ready to go. They all basically have to do everything, but the teams claim to have renewed energy. Larry & Jessie buy a coffee table, but argue over choice for a side table. Lara decides to ship things back to Brad via taxi as she goes to buy other things. Only problem, the cabs are taking their time! There is also only 3 hours remaining. Not a good decision.
They all begin shifting furniture in and Scott tells Jessie & Larry that they have no window coverings. He tells them to go out and buy something, but with two hours left, Larry decides against it. Still, Jessie goes out anyway. The taxi meanwhile arrives with all the stuff Brad needs for his room. Lara also forgets to buy curtains, and it seems this team decides against curtains. Lara goes back to the house to finish the room. But Scott then tells them that they really should. With ten minutes left, they are working their asses off.
Soon enough, renovation time is UP!
Judge’s Verdict
Lara & Brad:
Neale Whittaker: Agrees with John, it lacks soul and spirit. Likes it a bit.
Shaynna Blaze: Thinks it is quite fresh. Notices the sheet used as a curtain. She doesn’t see the wow.
John McGrath: Doesn’t knock him over, but he doesn’t hate it. He says it lacks a bit of soul.
Jessie & Larry:
Neale Whittaker: Thinks it picks up all the colours of the given rug.
Shaynna Blaze: Has some faults, has some good things.
John McGrath: Finds character and picks up some colours in the rug.
Result: Brad & Lara will be moving into The Block. Larry & Jessie have been eliminated.
Brad & Lara are quite emotional, but Jessie thinks her mother would be proud that she followed her dream. For Brad & Lara though, they have a hard ten weeks ahead of them. But who will they share it with?
The Block next airs Apr 18 at 7PM on Nine.
