Well, this is officially the first time I blog a show I previously blogged a prior series to; but for you viewers at home, it’s another healthy dose of The Block! This week, who will survive and enter the show? It all begins now!
Scott welcomes us back to The Block, and promises a cracker. We then preview the homes, which this year is located in the Melbourne suburb of South Melbourne. They look shocking. We also find out that this week is elimination week.
The teams begin to rock up. They meet up in front of a mansion and greet each other before Scott pops into view. He welcomes them to The Block and tells them that $100,000 is up for grabs. So who are the teams?
Team Round-Up
Brad & Courtney: Dating, WA
Sophie & Dale: Newlyweds, VIC
Brendan & Michelle: Married, youngest couple, VIC
Larry & Jessie: Father & Daughter, QLD
Brett & Rana: Mother & Son, VIC
Brad & Lara: Dating, NSW
Andrew & Mike: Brothers, NSW
Dan & Dani: Dating, VIC
Scott then introduces them to elimination week, telling them that over the next four days, they will find out what it takes to make it onto The Block. They will be going head to head with another team in a 24-hr challenge. Who’s going first?
Brad & Courtney will face off against Dan & Dani.
With that, their 24-hours begin by heading to The Big Red House- a completely blanked out mansion- needing to be filled, coloured and renovated. Dan & Dani head to the BRH first, before Brad & Courtney. Luckily, they only have to decorate one room. Like last year, there is a ‘hero’ object they have to model the room around. They will have $5,000 to spend. They will be judged on design, functionality and execution. With that, they begin.
They go in, inspect the house, and begin to make plans. We also get a quick look at their audition videos. Both rooms have a fireplace. Their hero object is an industrial looking light.
Brad & Courtney choose to do a dining area. Courtney seems used to calling the shots. Dan & Dani are doing a bedroom.
Both teams then go to buy their furniture and paints. For Dan and Dani, they go straight for the furniture. The cabinet they want is too heavy, and to their dismay, there is no delivery for today! The woman makes a phone call, and works out a way to get the courier to deliver the cabinet this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Brad & Courtney go to choose flooring, and they choose a dark grey wooden floor. They head to get paint, the same time as Dan & Dani. They both want the same colour- light grey. Dan & Dani, who are out in front, need to fuel up their car, but they can’t seem to find the lever to do it!
Brad heads back to the BRH to paint, while Courtney goes out to buy stuff. He doesn’t paint often, but makes a good job of it! Dan also paints for his team, while Dani goes out shopping. The boys joke over letting girls shop with $5,000. With that, they get painting. They don’t notice their colours are the same.
Dani & Courtney go to the same furniture shop. Dani buys something, but we don’t see it, as she bolts off to buy linen. Dani calls Dan to ask a question, but he doesn’t answer- because he’s enjoying a beer with Brad!
Opinion point: Which team do you want to see win this round?
Courtney is out buying retro art. She blows a massive portion of the budget on one picture. At 4.21pm, Dani heads to one of her favourite shops to buy furniture, but it’s closed. She knocks on the window and the woman lets her come in to buy.
Scott comes in to check up on Brad & Courtney, who don’t seem stressed at all as they lay out their plans. He then does the same with Dan; however Dani is still out shopping. She doesn’t get home until after 7PM. She comes home and notices that they have the same colour as the other team. Gawsh.
At 9PM, they finally call it a day after a day of painting. They begin again just before 8AM and begin to measure things up for their furniture. Dan & Dani plan everything. Brad & Courtney are still painting.
With 4 hours to go, Dan & Dani are already bringing in their bed after their floors are laid. Courtney then goes out to do the rest of her shopping. With 3 hours to go, she and Dani buy their final pieces. Dani has bought next to nothing to this point. She finally buys a table, some chairs and a mirror by the looks of things. She’s worried about her budget- she has $800 left. She has to give up something and after some advice from Dan; she drops some chairs and buys a cheaper set.
Courtney is just buying finishing touches, such as curtains. Dani has a problem after realising she hasn’t bought a doona insert. After buying a quilt, and a whole lot of stress, it’s time to use the rest of their hours to assemble the rooms before the judges arrive.
Judges Verdict
Dani & Dan’s Bedroom:
Neale Whitaker: Loves it, and thinks they’ve played really well with the dimensions. Likes the hero object.
John McGrath: Thinks it feels relaxed and modern. He also thinks it looks expensive.
Shaynna Blaze: She likes the choice of colour. She thinks they could have ironed the curtains.
Brad & Courtney’s Dining Area:
Neale Whitaker: We don’t hear from him much, but he’s clear on the winner.
John McGrath: He thinks what they’ve done is good.
Shaynna Blaze: She likes the poster, but not what they’ve done with it. Doesn’t like execution of the paint.
Day One Result: Dan & Dani move into The Block, Brad & Courtney have been eliminated.
…and that’s how it all went down!
The Block next airs Apr 17 at 7PM on Nine.
