Ahh, this was one of my faves from last year! Tonight, an onslaught of stars, be them bright or fading, take on this fun, but sometimes tedious challenge. Who will take out the title?
To begin the episode, we just review the celebrities:
Patti Newton, Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson, Jason Akermanis, Charlotte Dawson, Lauryn Eagle, Ben Dark, Fiona O’Loughlin, Marion Grasby, Nathan Jolliffe, Tania Zaetta, Vince Sorrenti and David ‘The Hoff’ Hasselhoff.
They all meet in a room, as with last week. They all head to a theatre where we first hear of Tania’s stint on Baywatch. We hear comments from the contestants about each other. The curtain rises and Julia Morris appears on screen as winner of the last season. She gives them some advice before Mark Bouris comes on stage. He goes on to talk to some of them and ask them questions.
Answers to Questions: Patti thinks Tania and Charlotte are strong women. Vince calls this a fish-out-of-water experience. The Hoff is glad to be here and brings…fame. Lauryn will aim to take the boys out.
Mark then reveals the two execs, Deborah Thomas and new this year, Mark’s son, Dane Bouris. It’s time for challenge numero uno.
Challenge Brief: Contestants must set up and run the ultimate pet pampering business. They will be judged on how much money each team wins. Its girl’s v boy’s again.
The boys get to choose the project manager for the girls and vice versa. They decide this on the way to their challenge. They head to a poodle parlour and Charlotte is not impressed with the smell. No one can hear anyone. Hoff seems to like the dogs. When choosing a team name, Charlotte and Tania show first signs of domination. The boy’s seems to work better, however Dicko and Ben show some clashes.
Team Name: Girls choose ‘Team Fortune’. Boys choose ‘Platinum’.
Opinion point: What team is your early favourite?
They then choose each other’s project manager. Another excuse for Tania to profess her time on Baywatch.
Project Manager: Hoff will PM the boy’s and Tania Zaetta will PM the girl’s.
The boys call the decision ‘dumb’ and Tania has no idea why she was picked. With that, they begin their challenge strategy. David is bossing everyone around and Tania feels people are speaking to Charlotte and not her.
The Hoff goes to do interviews and publicity stunts to help out with his challenge. He and the team goes to Bondi to rack in some more publicity. Jason looks a bit jealous. Meanwhile, some girls question Tania’s leadership skills. Patti, Fiona and Lauryn go to learn some dog training skills. Meanwhile, Tania, Marion and Charlotte work on donations and they get a $25,000 one! Meanwhile, Jason and Nathan feel David may be a one trick pony and thinks they are targeting the wrong audience at Bondi.
Opinion point: Is The Hoff acting like a show-off?
Dicko, Ben and Vince go into town to attract corporates while The Hoff goes on radio to promote! Charlotte also goes on to take jabs on the boy’s infatuation with the Hoff. To the field, and the girls are set up near the park carpark. The boys have set up somewhere in the distance, which could be disadvantageous. They work on their prices. The girls are offering a MUCH cheaper deal. With that, the challenge begins.
There’s a lot of spruiking and a lot of begging. There’s also a lot of dog washing, which is the main point. Patti complains about the lack of meal breaks and water in boots. Hoff seems to flirt with the dogs more than wash them. Charlotte has to have pictures taken of her and dogs deemed to look like her!
Opinion point: Thoughts on the challenge?
Patti seems to do really well, earning approval from Charlotte. For the boys, the money begins to pour in from corporates. The girls seem to be getting less from the corporates. For some reason, Fiona thinks she can get David to donate 25% of what they make to her team. It doesn’t happen. Hoff seems to work his arse off.
In the hot sun, Lauryn strips down to her bikini. Tania doesn’t look impressed! She gets Charlotte to turn her dungarees into short shorts. With 30 minutes to go, Dicko continues to bring people to his team. He is also impressed with Nathan. Erin McNaught, Nathan’s ex- girlfriend, and DWTS contestant Erin McNaught. Tania meanwhile is annoyed that Lauryn is running around with little direction.
Time is soon up, and it is time for the boardroom and the FIRST elimination.
The Boardroom
Mark walks in after the contestants and asks them a few questions.
Answers to Questions: Tania & Dicko have raised more than $45,000 each. Lauryn and Patti didn’t agree to put David as PM. The Hoff realised they picked him due to his notoriety, but ran with it. Jason and Tania seem to clash a bit. Charlotte assumed Tania would be ‘all show, no go’ but thinks she was extraordinary but has a huge ego. Fiona didn’t know how she did it. Lauryn says she felt controlled and didn’t really work as well. The Hoff worked best with Dicko. Dicko thinks they used the Hoff wisely. Nathan bought in the single largest donation of anybody. Jason causes a bit of a stir when he says Hoff didn’t make money in terms of bringing in corporates on his own.
Opinion point: Did you agree with the choices of PM’s?
Money Raised: Team Fortune raises $88,287. Team Platinum raises $143,362. The boys have won challenge 1. All this money goes to the Starlight Foundation, as announced by a teary Hoff.
In the green room, the charity woman comes around to collect the cheque.
What Went Wrong? Mark goes through the amount of money each of them won. Fiona won less than a thousand bucks. The boys are stunned that Patti washed 30 dogs. Charlotte would fire Fiona. She’d get rid of Tania if it was a popularity contest.
Elimination results
Tania, Fiona and Lauryn are chosen for Elimination.
Judges discuss the three contestants individually before they come back in for final questioning.
Lauryn: Thinks she was brought in because she is a threat. She will bring 120% to the next challenge. Mark reminds her that this series should not be about the celebrity.
Tania: Brought Lauryn in because she was all over the place. She shouldn’t be fired because she brought in a lot of money. Mark thinks she should be responsible for the team loss.
Fiona: She shouldn’t be fired because she wants to earn money for her charity. Mark admires her cheekiness.
Elimination Result: Fiona O’Loughlin…You’re Fired!
With that, Fiona leaves and Lauryn and Tania reunite with the rest to end the episode.
Opinion point: Do you agree with the results tonight?
