From Ten:
With the search underway for Australia’s next all-round superstar, Network Ten is pleased to announce celebrated writer and director Stephan Elliott has joined the judging panel for I Will Survive: Priscilla.
I Will Survive: Priscilla will have the most talented individual performers, chosen from all walks of life, jump on board the famous Priscilla bus which will retrace the steps of the box-office smash movie from Sydney to Alice Springs. It will be the audition trip of a lifetime. The program will see amazing performances from our contestants at each outback Australian location along the way under the direction of the best in the business.
Stephan is the perfect fit for this judging role given he was the writer and director of the iconic smash hit The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in 1994 starring Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Terence Stamp. The screenplay was nominated for AFIs, a BAFTA Award in the UK and in the USA, a WGA Award and a Golden Globe in 1995. The film won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. The film had a successful transformation to the stage in 2006 and has toured Australia, New Zealand, London’s West End and Milan and is currently playing in Sao Paulo, Brazil and on Broadway.
As a movie director Stephan wrote and directed Eye of the Beholder (1999) starring Ashley Judd and Ewan McGregor which won him Best Director award at the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film, Welcome to Woop Woop (1997), Frauds (1993) Easy Virtue (2008) and more recently A Few Best Men (2012).
“Along time ago in the Australian outback a little bit of glitter fell from the stars and Priscilla was born. The film launched the careers of everyone involved both cast and crew. So 19 years on we’re going back out there again to re-find the magic and hand it on to the next generation of talented up and comers looking for a dream to come true.” said Elliott.
