Get set for television’s biggest week of the year when Channel Nine premieres the long-awaited series return of The Block on Monday, April 16.
The grand final episode of The Block 2011 was the highest rating program on TV last year and the 2012 version promises more twists, turns and surprises than ever before.
Eight new and eager coupes face the first of the series’ big surprises in the knock-out elimination round, this year, set in a heritage-listed Edwardian house, where they will be paired off and pitted against each other and given 24 hours to renovate, style and furnish a room.
The four surviving couples will then spend 10 weeks undertaking the biggest, most gruelling renovations in the history of The Block as they set about transforming a set of rundown terrace houses in the inner bayside suburb of South Melbourne.
Along the way, they will be taken off-site to compete in amazing challenges led by The Block’s host Scott Cam and “challenge queen” Shelley Craft. The challenges in this series have another big twist – the couples will be competing for all-important bonus points which they can use during the judgements to help them win the $5,000 weekly room prize
At the conclusion of the series, all four terraces will be sold at auction. Each couple will get to keep the profit from the auction of their own property. And after the last auctioneer’s gavel goes down, the couple whose property makes the most over reserve wins an additional $100,000.
This year’s couples are:
Andrew & Mike from NSW (brothers)
Brad & Courtney from WA (couple)
Brett & Rana from VIC (mother and son)
Brendan & Michele from VIC (newlyweds)
Dani & Dan from VIC (couple)
Brad & Lara from NSW (couple)
Sophie & Dale from VIC (newlyweds)
Larry & Jessie from QLD (father and daughter)
