Disney star, Demi Lovato has joined Britney Spears as a judge on the second series of the US version of X Factor.
Following weeks of rumours, Spears and Lovato on Tuesday made their first promotional appearance on behalf of the singing competition at Fox’s upfront presentation of its 2012-13 slate, where they were introduced with much fanfare by network boss Kevin Reilly.
“I am so excited about this whole experience,” Spears said on stage, seeming just a bit nervous. “It’s going to be so much fun and so different from anything I’ve ever done. I’m ready to find the true star.”
Lovato then spoke, declaring herself to be “totally stoked” by both the opportunity to judge on X Factor and do so alongside Spears and returning judge/music producer L.A. Reid. “It’s an honor to be standing next to you,” she said to her colleagues. “I’m excited to represent my generation, and I’m ready to find the winner.”
With a nod to the two new judges, Reid called himself “the luckiest guy in the world,” and then waved the X Factor flag by saying the fab foursome represents “the Rolls Royce of television.”
Surveying X Factor‘s prospects for Season 2, in the wake of what some said was a disappointing debut last fall, Cowell said, “We started up well last year, but this year we are going to seriously kick butt.”
