MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!
Grey’s Anatomy is heading to it’s season finale in the USA. Titled “Flight” it’s going to see the death of a familiar face. In the lead up to this, we will also see two favourites hook up and someone will fail their boards.
Eliminated from death are Meredith, Christina, Alex, Jackson, Mark, Derek and Bailey are safe. That leaves April, Richard, Adele, Ben (Bailey’s boyfriend), Lexie, Teddie, Owen, Callie and Arizona.
Will it be an instantaneous death? Will he/she die on the table like George O’Malley? Or will it be a slower, agonizing passing? “I can’t say the how or why but it’s absolutely going to be sad. It was heart-wrenching at the table read, and it was heart wrenching as we shot it”, “It matters, and it’s not going to be quickly forgotten by anyone.” said Jesse Williams who plays Jackson Avery,
He also said – “I was absolutely surprised to see that anybody failed. But I get why. It makes it really interesting because it’s not simply, “Oh, crap, somebody failed. We’ll start a new episode next week.” This is going to have real ripple effects not only for that person but throughout other characters. It’s not something that you can just patch up in a week or a year.”
For a show that has in the past staged a ferry accident, opened a sinkhole in the middle of the city and sent a gunman roaming the halls, Sarah Drew who plays April Kepner has said “I’d say it definitely ranks up there with intensity. We’re not cutting any corners in terms of the pressure, dire straits. It’s about a life-and-death split-second decision in this case. It’s something that I really enjoyed reading and [acting], I just wish it was even longer. I wish we were doing a double episode like we did in Season 6, because it’s kind of something you didn’t want to end. But it’s also bittersweet.”
“There is a huge story that happens. For half of the people, it happens outside of the hospital, and then the other half are in the hospital and don’t know that this big thing has happened. It will forever change everybody’s relationships. I am on the edge of my seat because I want to know what’s going to happen at the beginning of Season 9. [Laughs] It is that gigantic of a cliffhanger. It’s really intense, really emotional. Everyone was crying and shell-shocked at the table read. It’s huge.”
As for the hook up between two characters, they haven’t had a romance before and there hasn’t been a hint that these two would be any more than friends! It’s going to be a shock and a bumpy ride.

UPDATE – The last episode is indeed a plane crash that sees Derek missing after being sucked out of the plane, Christina and Meredith seem okay, but panicked. Mark is seen in the promo asking about his true loves welfare, Lexie is trapped under the wreckage and it looks horrific for Arizona.
But is this a way to throw us off a different desth? Alex gave up his spot on the plane after a fight with Arizona, the person who fails their boards has run off drunk and we have other doctors leaving for other hospitals. Owen is super stressed and we still have Adele.
Shondra Rhimes has announced that she may be letting more than one person die in the finale.
In my opinion Lexie and Arizona look like they are in big trouble, which makes me so sad (and STRESSED) – All will be relvealed next Friday here after it airs in the US.
