Kevin Perry eliminated from MasterChef Australia Season Four (Recap)

Previous Episode: MasterChef Australia Season Four – It’s Challenge Time!

These contestants better like pasta, because they’re depending on it, and their knowledge about it, to save them from MasterChef’s first chop of 2012.

Contestants up for elimination: Emma, Ben, Kylie, Mindy, TK, Kevin, Matt, Wade, Jules, Beau, Dalvinder & Filippo.

The contestants head to the kitchen for today’s challenge. Judges today are Matt, Gary and George.

Challenge Brief: ELIMINATION CHALLENGE! Today’s challenge is all about pasta. Today’s challenge will consist of three rounds. The first round is ‘Name That Pasta’.

Round 1: Name That Pasta. A bench of different pasta types sit before the contestants. Contestants line up in a single file and one at a time approach the bench to name one dish of pasta. 28 pasta types are there. They are looking for the ITALIAN name. The first six to get it wrong fall into round two.

Results: The six to get it wrong are Kevin, Mindy, Jules, TK, Kylie and Emma. Ben, Matt, Wade, Jules, Beau, Dalvinder & Filippo are safe. They were tripped up by an odd pasta, Lasagnette.

Round 2: Make That Pasta. Their task is to make fettuccine and cut it by hand. Gary hands out some conditions on what he expects from his fettuccine. They need 250g minimum of perfect pasta. The first four people to get it right will progress.

Progress:Everyone makes two batches of pasta for judging. Mindy is first up for judging. It’s a bit thick, but they pass it. Will it weigh enough to pass her?

Yes. Kylie is up next and also passes at 309kg. Emma is next and she doesn’t quite get there. Cue tears. Kevin is next but doesn’t get there either. TK and Emma are up together. TK gets there first and with perfect pasta…she gets good weight. She’s through. Emma again and she makes it.

Results: The contestants who save themselves are Mindy, Kylie, TK and Emma. Jules and Kevin will be moving on to the final elimination round.

Meanwhile: The winning blue team from yesterday head for a class on cooking huge chunks of meat. They also learn other techniques with other ingredients before enjoying this food at lunch.

Round 3: Cook That Pasta. They must cook the dish, Egg and Ricotta stuffed Raviolo. It’s George’s dish. They must replicate.

Progress: Both Jules and Kevin remain head to head. Both contestants feel safe with this dish apparently.

Kevin is keeping calm but soon, cracks form for Jules when she struggles to separate the egg yolk and white. She gets it done and soon begins to work on her back up raviolo. Ten minutes to go and they all manage to plate up a wonderful replication. Who will do better?

Comments

Kevin: Matt likes the look of his dish. His egg yolk oozes beautifully. George says his pasta is lovely but could be thinner. His main issue is his seasoning. Gary agrees with George. Matt says there’s too much lemon zest in his ricotta.

Jules: Probably doesn’t get the judge’s vote for presentation. Her egg yolk oozes. George loves the parmesan and seasoning in her dish. Gary picks up the nut-brown butter easily. Matt says it eats deliciously well.

Who’s Going Home?

Result: The contestant finishing in TWENTY-FOURTH PLACE is…Kevin.

We see how Kevin goes outside of the kitchen before the episode wraps up. Nice work, Jules!

MasterChef Australia next airs May 18 at 7PM on TEN.
