MasterChef Australia Season Four – Final Hunt for the Top 24

Previous Episode: MasterChef Australia Season Four – MasterClass #1

Six spots remain- who will they fall to?

Today is the final time someone can win an apron. Six are up for grabs and the contestants head to the Exhibition Hall to begin the day.

Challenge: A French Pressure Test. After a shop, they have to head to Montsalvat colony where they must cook their dish. Jacques Reymond will be a guest judge for today’s test.

Conditions: 90 Minutes.

Progress: Well Jacques seems to like the ideas coming out from people. That could all change, and it does with Kath’s bouillabaisse creation procedure branded as ‘all wrong’ by Jacques. He wants her to just use the juices from the pot of crab. A lot of people are sweating I’ve noticed. Someone turn on the fans! Emma is making macarons and isn’t happy with their look. Yukio is just dripping in sweat. Kath’s dish is looking a bit messy so I hope she cleans it up! Mario also has a bit of a problem with his dish.

Soon, time is up, and it is time for tasting.

Tasting & Results

Mindy

Cooking: ‘A Taste of Normandy’

Comments: Jacques says her dish has ‘total harmony’ and compliments some elements. Matt says it is the best thing she has cooked to date.

Kath

Cooking: Bouillabaisse.

Comments: Jacques calls it beautiful and is happy she listened to him but doesn’t like the pastry in it. George finds beard in her mussels.

Mario

Cooking: Dick A L’Orange

Comments: Gary’s parsnip is hard but says the duck is well cooked. The pate is the worst he’s seen. Still, Jacques loves it- the duck and the asparagus. He also doesn’t like the pate.

Carolyn

Cooking: Choux A La Rose

Comments: Mark criticises the rosewater and the filling.

Keen

Cooking: Lobster.

Comments: Gary says he overcooked the lobster and would have liked more bisque.

Dom

Cooking: Stuffed Chicken Wings

Comments: They seem to like it.

Filippe

Cooking: Pissaladiere and Clafoutis

Comments: Jacques thinks something is missing here in the Clafoutis. He says the flavours on the Pissaladiere are nice and Matt likes the bread base.

Emma

Cooking: Macarons with Salted Caramel filling

Comments: Jacques says it is not bad at all but has a problem with the caramel but Gary likes the flavours she put together.

Roger

Cooking: Galantine of chicken.

Comments: Jacques doesn’t like the goat’s cheese in the galantine.

Harvey

Cooking: Beef bourguignon

Comments: Jacques says it is disappointing and that it has been destroyed completely.

Yukio

Cooking: Red Snapper En Papillote.

Comments: Jacques like the Papillote of the fish and likes the principle of the dish. He calls the scallop a disaster. George calls the fish overcooked but a great idea.

Deb

Cooking: Walnut and Roquefort Tart.

Comments: Jacques calls it a marvellous interpretation and loves her pastry. Gary just hands a ditto to that. Matt calls it a beautiful dish.

Results: The winners of the final six top 24 aprons are… Debra, Filippo, Mindy, Kath, Mario and Emma.

MasterChef Australia next airs May 14 at 7PM on TEN.
