Previous Episode: MasterChef Australia Season Four – Mindy Tries For Immunity…Again!
If someone asked you to feed a barrage of customers using leftover ingredients from other restaurants, you’d think they were taking the micky, right…
After Mindy’s immunity challenge, the contestants find red and blue aprons in their house.
Challenge Brief: Four OzHarvest trucks will be waiting for them outside to help them collect food to cook for 25 of the world’s finest foodies. They must prepare an entrée, main and dessert at a black tie lunch. They must grab an apron quick to determine their teams.
Blue Team: Beau, Ben (Captain), Wade, Sam, Andy, Audra, Fillipo, Kylie, Mindy & Emma.
Red Team: Amina (Captain), Andrew, TK, Julia, Alice, Jules, Tregan, Debra, Mario & Dalvinder.
Conditions: They have three hours to collect their ingredients.
Contestants begin to discuss their strategy for this challenge. They must collect their food from other restaurants. The red team are going for the big king-pin restaurant. Beau, Filippo & Sam are in car 1 for blue with Wade, Andy & Kylie in car 2 for blue.
Alice, Jules & Mario are in car 1 for red with Debra, Dalvinder & Andrew are in car 2. They all find success with finding food. The rest of the teams are sorting out their menus and giving instructions to their collectors on what to collect. Both teams begin to go to the same restaurants and shops, like Darrell Lea. The nice woman organising the chocolate pick-up there is hesitant to cause drama between the two battling teams. The red team are a bit too late.
Captain Amina is annoyed, and wants to play rough. She wants the blue team to cry! Aww, that’s not in the spirit of the game! But it does seem as if Red is lagging right at the moment. The blue team are getting huge quantities of things, while the red team are scoring very small things. It seems eggs are really sought after. The red team pass this one restaurant and gets a MASSIVE haul, including 30 eggs.
Their time is soon up and the contestants begin to rock up to the restaurant. Unfortunately, the blue team rock up eggless.
After the break, it’s time for the second part of their challenge- cooking!
Challenge Brief: The team to win the most money for OzHarvest will win (The guests will donate how much they think their dishes are worth.). Matt will mentor them today, as an OzHarvest ambassador.
Conditions: 2 hours of cooking time before customers walk through the door.
Progress: The red team will be doing a salmon tartar for entrée (cooked by TK, Debra & Jules), Braised Beef with salad for main with a meringue, chocolate and strawberry mousse tower for dessert. The blue team will be doing a barramundi tartar for entrée, a sweet potato and pumpkin raviolo for main and a chocolate mousse for dessert. Matt asks Ben how good a fish pie would sound, but Ben will NOT change entrée…or will he? He talks to his team and they seem to agree to change. Audra is comfortable to create an eggless and flourless pastry. Ben just hopes it works.
Matt Moran goes to the red team and calls their main boring. They tweak their menu a bit to take into account Matt’s ideas. They decide to go with a Kofta. The blue team’s chocolate mousse will be done eggless, which is a theme for the egg-free team.
The red team hit a snag- their mayonnaise is not thickening. Jules is in the thick of it! With the help of TK, she gets it thick with some wasabi. Meanwhile, with little time, Audra needs more pastry for the fish pie. Things get hectic, especially when their guests arrive! They must all get their entrees ready. They plate up and it is quite a chore. We hear some criticisms and some positives. The reds go first, and then the blue. Andy is worried. Their entrée’s presentation is criticised, but its flavour is applauded. The contestants then begin to plate main course. This is a HUGE struggle for red team as they try to figure out how to plate up. Debra comes up with a good idea that they all agree on.
No stress at the blue team’s station. Time runs out for red just a little too early for them. Amina gets a bit of a telling off from Gary for wiping a dish. Their dish is applauded for being balanced. Now it is time for the blue team. Things get very hectic and Ben goes into teacher mode. When their dish goes out, it is a hit!
Now, its dessert time! It’s pretty uneventful. So who won?
Results
Blue Team Raise: $8,955.50 + $20,000 Donation
Red Team Raise: $3,056.50
Overall: $32,012.00
Therefore: The red team will face elimination as the blue team WIN!
So did you agree with tonight’s winner? I think the blue team owe Matt a lot for that ingenious idea.
