Nine guides and EPGs showed tonights’ (May 11) first Friday Night NRL game as live in NSW and QLD. Guess what. It wasn’t.
According to Footy Tips, tonight’s first NRL game between the Brisbane Broncos and Manly Sea Eagles kicked off at 7.00pm. According to Nine EPG and guides, it aired live from 7.30pm.In non-NRL markets, it is the same on GEM.
The second game in the double header from Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane was set to start at 8.45pm, with Nine airing from 9.30pm.
Usually, the first game on Friday night is LIVE to its respective market from 7.30pm, with the second game delayed for a 9.30pm start.
This night would have been the perfect opportunity to show both games live on Nine by starting the first live at 7pm, and having the second game follow right on from 8.45pm. But instead, the network chose to keep the 7.30pm start, and The Block at 7pm. Surely The Block could have moved to Saturday 5.30pm say like it does on NBN Newcastle.
As a result, there is not one single live NRL game on Nine this weekend. Shameful.
While Nine have kept the word “live” in the EPG and guides, they at least are not passing it off as live on the actual telecast.
This certainly does not bode well for Nine with NRL rights for 2013-2017 under negotiation.
