MasterChef Australia Season Four – The Deciding Pressure Test

Previous Episode: MasterChef Australia Season Four – MasterChef Where Are They Now

Yep, the pressure test is back and it’s about to decide on the next few MasterChef contestants. Who will get lucky?

Today’s challenge is a pressure test, and here is the brief. Remember, Beau saw the dish yesterday. Shannon Bennett is on hand to deliver the cloche.

Challenge Brief: In a pressure test, all contestants must cook a presented dish. The dish today is…peach Melba- a modern version. They are given pressure points from Shannon on how to cook the dish. Twelve will be tasted and six of the best will win an apron- moving into the Top 24.

Conditions: Two hour time limit.

Progress: With so many elements, many contestants find it hard to start. Lydia, one contestant, makes a mistake early on by not using the right amount of eggs. Many people seem to struggle with the cream machine. One girl makes the wrong type of cream! She just hopes her mousse turns out OK. Half way through the challenge, Andy splits his pants, causing the girls behind him to giggle! Contestants have to monitor their temperatures with sharp accuracy. During the challenge, we see some back stories. Tania is one contestant, whose caramel has been a disaster, causing her to lose time. She writes herself off with tears, but can she turn this around?

They all begin on their chocolate cages before welding their peach and cream ball. Some have little luck. Beau’s cage falls apart, but he has to just leave it otherwise he risks destroying it further.

Soon, time is up. It’s time to taste!

Tasting & Results

Andy: George calls it special, fresh and clean. Shannon is also a fan. The judges draw a MC logo on his apron to try it out for size.

Kylie: Matt says her caramel cracked and her peach was nice, but there was no vanilla mousse which was a big drawback…but it was because Gary had already eaten it! Fantastic!

Lydia: Gary says she nailed the mousse and peach flavour. He also liked the chocolate cage. He thinks she’s done a really good job.

Emma: George thinks her caramel needs to be thicker.

Mario: It isn’t the most beautiful.

Ben: Shannon thinks every component tastes great and he loves it overall.

Dom: George says the cream isn’t as soft as it should be but calls it an excellent job.

Julia: They love the sound of the caramel and Shannon says the dish has done his work proud.

James: Matt says his mousse is a little bit sticky.

Tatum: Gary notices the caramel.

Keen: There’s a bit question mark in terms of presentation.

Beau: Gary thinks it is a pretty dish and that there are really good components.

Results: The winners of the six aprons are…Andy, Julia, Kylie, Lydia, Ben and Beau.

The rest of the crop then gathers around as they debrief on the week. 27 are left but six aprons are waiting. There is one last chance for them. Tonight, Gary & George will discuss who has earned the right to fight for an apron.

They must come in and plead their case as to why they should get an apron. They come in groups and put their pleas on the line.

Result: The people kept in the competition are Kath, Harvey, Mario, Filippo, Deb, Carolyn, Roger, Keen, Mindy, Yukio, Emma & Dom. They have one more chance to win one of six aprons!

MasterChef Australia next airs May 11 at 7PM on TEN.
