Recap: The Block Season Five – Room Reveal #2

Previous Episode: The Block Season Five – Unlocked #3

Who will make a great impression at the end of this very hellish week? Who will faulter? If it’s gonna happen sometime, this week is the best chance for a car-crash!

We begin the episode with the contestants getting into the final day of Hell Week. Many contestants have been working for more than 24 hours straight. We are reminded of Mike & Andrew’s horror week. They’re still playing catch up. Dan & Dani have also been hitting snags, and yesterday, they gave up on the week- however we find out they were able to get a replacement made. Dan was actually able to sleep, but is woken up at 4am when the supplier drove from NSW to deliver it to him. The only problem is the sink pipe hole is too small! In Brad & Lara have also been working hard, but have left a lot for today. Sophie & Dale have also had little sleep. Sophie however looks wide awake due to her caked-on makeup as usual. Haha- would ya believe!

Dan & Dani can’t find a way to cut the hole, so they have to go for another top; however it isn’t practical as it takes up space by going over the edge of the bench. They decide to do a whole redesign. Meanwhile, Andrew & Mike get their glass put in, as do Brad & Lara. Both rooms look great with them- even Brad & Lara’s who actually guessed some of their measurements.

18 hours until delivery, it’s all systems go, but finally, things are starting to fall together. Sophie & Dale’s distressed door bedhead is now being installed. We also see some of their other creations, like that bedside cabinet, which Sophie wants cut- however only one tradie is confident to cut through the thick wood and he does it fantastically! Meanwhile, Dan & Dani’s new basin arrives but it is too low. Christ. To make matters worse, the curfew is fast approaching and Keith is on the prowl. Soon enough, it arrives, and they have to do everything manually. Dani comes home to see the new basin and goes outside crying. They do the best they can, as well as the other contestants, before time is called. It’s now time for judging.

Room Reveal Score

This year, contestants are scored out of 30- 10 points per judge. This week, they are joined by Darren Palmer. John is off sick!

Dan & Dani’s room

Neale Whittaker: It’s not his favourite room. There are nice things, but nothing exciting. Wouldn’t shave in the ensuite.

Shaynna Blaze: Shaynna feels she’s in a twilight zone where she has seen it before. Loves the opening but notices some damage and lack of grout. Visually though, it looks good.

Darren Palmer: A few successes, like the tiles in the ensuite, are to be had. Notices the height of the sink, which begins to leak after they turn it on.

Shaynna: 6

Darren: 6

Neale: 6

Overall Score: 18

Place: Fourth

Dale & Sophie’s room

Neale Whittaker: What a difference a week makes, he says. Thinks it looks good and grown up.

Shaynna Blaze: Shaynna loves the curtains and the bedhead. Likes the point of difference of the room. She can’t really fault them. Would suggest a different type of toilet.

Darren Palmer: Also loves the bedhead. Loves the basin and the space. Also notices the lack of practicality of the toilet.

Shaynna: 7

Darren: 8

Neale: 7.5

Overall Score: 22.5

Place: Third

Brad & Lara’s room

Neale Whittaker: Thinks the room has a bit of wow factor. Loves the original rose and colour palette and the sense of humour.

Shaynna Blaze: Different room again. The ensuite is beautiful and spacious. Loves the size of the basin. She doesn’t like the tiles on the floor. Doesn’t like the functionality of the cabinet.

Darren Palmer: It’s a well-designed room. Loves the spacious walk in. Doesn’t know if the bathroom will let them down.

Shaynna: 7.5

Darren: 8

Neale: 7.5

Overall Score: 23

Place: Second

Mike & Andrew’s room

Neale Whittaker: Loves the colour and storage space of the room. Would say it is a bit soulless.

Shaynna Blaze: Loves the curtains in here too. Begs to differ with Neale’s soulless comment. She thinks the ensuite is sexy. Loves the well-considered design but no towel rack.

Darren Palmer: Likes the finish of the lowered roof. Loves the simple bed. Thinks the ensuite is beautifully finished.

Shaynna: 8

Darren: 8

Neale: 8

Overall Score: 24

Place: First

Result: Mike & Andrew with $10,000 with Dan & Dani this week’s chumps.

Next week: TWO rooms again! One upstairs and one downstairs in upstairs/ downstairs week! One is an upstairs guest bedroom and downstairs toilet-under-the-stairs. It’s practically the same week- one wet room and one bedroom. Dear GOD!

The Block next airs May 7 at 7PM on Nine.

So… who failed to present a room? Well no one really. They all presented. Dan & Dani maybe didn’t get their ensuite up to their usual standards but aside from that it was all fine. The ads made it sound like someone was going to leave a room bare or something like that. Really the promo department need to do a better job on the ads. And they need to quit telling us what is happening next week before the show finishes cos Scotty just does that a few mins later. But anyways, I really like Sophie & Dale’s rooms and also Andrew & Mike’s. Loved Sophie & Dale’s door. Sophie has some great ideas but she could have done more work instead of getting everyone else to do it for her.
