Previous Episode: The Block Season Five – Shelley Craft Challenge #2 Part #2
We’ve just gotten out of Shelley’s two day challenge and we’re about to be thrown into Scotty’s. Hate to be the contestants this week!
The contestants are trying to finish their two rooms. We are reminded of how a pipe burst, slowing down Andrew & Mike’s progress of making precise measurements. They now must call out the plumber to get the pipe fixed, and they just hope it hasn’t soaked their completed bedroom below. Cameron, the tradie who caused the problem, is lucky no major problems occurred. In the end, Mike & Andrew finish their measurements and put in their orders for glass. Meanwhile, Dan & Dani hurriedly try to catch up. They begin on their dividing wall. Dale & Sophie are the other team not getting glass this week, but they are more advanced in their work than Dan & Dani. Dan & Dani are struggling to pick a design of floor tile.
Last week, Brad & Lara acquired a ceiling rose from Dan & Dani, but it has had a bit of a crack in it. Luckily, it can be repaired. Meanwhile, Mike & Andrew want to have their plaster stuck straight on the wall, instead of having it put on the proper way. This is to maximise space, however they are denied the right to do that- and they now run the risk of having plaster that won’t fit. Meanwhile, Scott comes to visit Dan & Dani and the tradie is confident that they will be done by tomorrow. Dani comes home and Dan tries to settle her nerves on the budget. She wants to buy an expensive piece of art, however Dan will have to gyprock the room himself, but with so much stuff to do, Dan just cannot do it.
Opinion point: Should Dani buy the expensive piece of art and make Dan gyprock, or should she dump it?
After the break, tensions rise as the rains come and hell week drains away- which is a bad thing, because they need that time to renovate! The next day, Brad finds out that his plaster has been soaked in overnight rain. They have a busy day ahead- except it’s another Challenge Day!!! Oh dear!
The contestants head to Mitre 10 Geelong for this one!
Challenge Brief: They are surrounded by timber- all different types. They have to build a…and wait for the roller door to rise for this one…treasure chest! They must use the timber around them and they have five hours to do so. They will be judged on originality. The winner will get to open one of two completed chests. In one of them is $3,000. In the other is 1 bonus point.
They get started with so much on the line, but with all the stuff happening back at the block, it’s hard for most of them to keep their minds on the game. Some people get on the laptop for some ideas but Sophie decides to shut her laptop to come up with her own plan. She decides to turn their chest into a sort of wagon. Dan should be good at this, but with so much on his plate, he spends so much time trying to keep his tradies in check, but he’s not having much luck.
Back at the Block, Mike & Andrew’s tradie has to attach the plaster to steel brackets to stop the wall from imploding, however they may have no space for the glass. They’ve sacrificed their mind in the challenge worrying about this, going for a ‘tried and tested’ design for their chest. Meanwhile, Sophie and Dale fight over the challenge! Who wudda thought!
Brad is carving some metal out for the chest, which is a bit imaginative, but is it sticking with the brief? Anyway, Mike & Andrew find out that their plasterer’s idea to reinforce the fixing of the plaster to the wall will mean that their glass won’t fit. They decide to stop work by sending their plasterer home in an attempt to put their heads together tonight to see where they go from here. They may not finish the room!
Opinion point: Who’s idea of plastering was wiser- Mike & Andrew’s idea to fix the plaster directly onto the wall, or the tradie’s idea to have to bolstered with steel supports?
After the break, Dan finds out that he is having more luck with his block room back home with things starting to fall back into place. He spends the final 45 minutes in the challenge actually building his chest! Their time is soon up and it is time for Scotty to decide a winner.
Dale & Sophie’s chest has a garden bed feel. Brad & Sophie’s chest is made of steel. Dan & Dani’s and Andrew & Mike’s chests have hardly any imagination, and they are eliminated early.
Challenge Result: Brad & Lara win today’s Scotty’s Challenge. They open one of the chests to receive…$3,000.
And with that, the episode ends on a high.
The Block next airs May 3 at 7PM on Nine.
