Recap: The Celebrity Apprentice Australia Season Two – Challenge & Elimination #7

Previous Episode: The Celebrity Apprentice Australia Season Two – Challenge & Elimination #6

It’s a double elimination episode- just what I’ve been waiting for! Who’ll be going home tonight?

The contestants head to a car showroom where the execs and Tom Noble are waiting for them for today’s challenge.

Challenge Brief: Teams will devise and create print advertisements and pitch their ideas to a panel of advertising execs. The team whose advertisements best fits the brief will win $40,000 for charity.

Project Manager: Vince Sorrenti is made PM of Team Fortune. Ben Dark is PM for Team Platinum. They must pick their teams.

Teams: Vince, Dicko and Charlotte are in Team Fortune. Ben, Nathan and Lauryn are in Team Platinum.

Only four celebrities will progress after this challenge. They then head off to devise ideas. Both teams are confident. Team Platinum go for a ride in the car from their ad challenge through a devised course. Team Fortune go next. They have no idea how to drive their car. Charlotte is terrible. It’s then time to actually work on their concept.

Dicko thinks of ‘Australia’s real top model’, in lieu of Charlotte Dawson, but she thinks it has been done to death. They have no idea. Charlotte has to get props for something she doesn’t have any idea of.

Team Platinum has an advertising directive to help them through their idea. They decide to capture the emotions of the BMW car. They come up with the headline ‘Can You Handle This?’ They soon change their title to ‘Refined with a dark side’.

Team Fortune then lock in an idea; ‘Life, It’s about the drive’ which would include a photo shoot with them in it to represent achievement. With that, both teams head to location. At Team Platinum, the photographer turns up and wants direction, a lot of it. Ben is getting impatient. Apparently it is 6am- really, is that what 6am looks like in Sydney?! Does the sun ever set?! Anyway, Lauryn is fretting over a suit which she can’t get hold of.

Meanwhile, Team Fortune’s car turns up in the wrong colour and Dicko loses his cool.  Both teams work with their problems and begin their photo shoots. Lauryn’s tuxedo comes but without a shirt, costing more time. Ben is still feeling pressure and when Nathan fails to give the very cheeky photographer the right details, Ben comes in and gets into an argument with him. Both teams get their photos done eventually- but not before a sexist controversy at Team Fortune.

They then put their promo together and team Fortune argue over the size of them in the images. Team Platinum do well due to Nathan’s designing skills. They then head to the printers before heading to the pitch. Team Fortune do well, until Dicko talks. He is sick and he makes some sense, but nothing concrete.

Team Platinum does well with Lauryn as a main speaker but the message is somewhat lost to the panel. It’s then boardroom time.

The Boardroom

Mark walks in after the contestants and asks them a few questions.

Answers to Questions: Dicko was thrilled to have been chosen first for the challenge by Vincent. Lauryn wasn’t too fazed by the decision to pick her last and wouldn’t have swapped teams. Team Platinum look at Fortune’s idea and Ben doesn’t like the headline. Vince explains the message. Fortune doesn’t like the blankness of Platinum’s concept. Ben explains their change of heart with the headline. The execs then pick up a mistake in the ad- it isn’t a V6, it is a straight 6. Ben takes the wrap for it. Lauryn says Ben is assertive as a PM. She says that Ben’s strong personality stopped her from saying what she wanted to at times, but she adapted. She thinks they went OK. Ben thinks he is flexible with his team. Dicko calls the challenge a hideous process. Team Fortune then talk about their roles. Vince was thrilled with the final product. He wouldn’t have changed anything, nor would Charlotte. Ben says the emotions he was trying to convey was ‘perfecting perfection’. Is that an emotion now? Lauryn thinks the emotion was adrenalin and excitement. Nathan says the ad shows speed and strength. Lauryn says the tuxedo was to represent sophistication.

Money Raised: The winner of the $40,000 is Team Platinum, and Ben’s charity, Royal Brisbane Children’s Hospital.

Team Fortune will head into elimination.

What Went Wrong? Mark runs through the problems- they haven’t highlighted the parts that needed to be. They also didn’t express the emotions they needed to. Vince accepts these criticisms. Charlotte says they chose safe over risky. Charlotte says the boys worked well, but she played it safe more. Dicko says the other guys have won this fair and square. Charlotte still thinks they nailed it. They also discuss Ben for some reason. Dicko would start again to do things differently. Vince didn’t think Dicko had more than his say when they discuss Dicko’s possible control freak streak. Vince doesn’t know what Charlotte could have done more.

Elimination results

Dicko, Charlotte & Vince are automatically up for Elimination.

Charlotte: She says she’s not culpable for what’s gone wrong today and thinks she could have made it good and thinks for the first time she has done a good job. Dane says she did her job very well but expected more flare. Deb says she is flamboyant but didn’t step up.

Dicko: Dicko says he is loving every moment. Dane thinks it is surprising he didn’t take control but was very humble. Deb thinks he came up with a lot of ideas but had too much pressure.

Vincent: He has worked his guts out and has taken risks. He will be disappointed if he leaves. Dane calls him a fierce competitor and Deb calls him a nice but wishy-washy character.

Elimination Result: Charlotte Dawson & Vincent Sorrenti…You’re fired.

The Celebrity Apprentice Australia next airs May 10 at 8PM on Nine.
