RECORD VIEWERS FOR STATE OF ORIGIN

Game 1, of the 2012 Harvey Norman State of Origin Series went to the XXXX Queensland Maroons 18-10 over the New South Wales VB Blues. It is the highest rating sports broadcast of 2012, attracting over 1.2 million more viewers than the second highest ranking sports broadcast (combined metro & regional).

In regional areas, an average of 1.442 million viewers watched the match, peaking at 1.674 million, making it the biggest regional audience to watch a State of Origin match since the inception of the OzTAM ratings.

Game 1 reached 4.399 million viewers within the 5 City Metro markets and 2.202 million in regional areas.

The 2012 Harvey Norman State of Origin pre-match show secured an impressive 1.551 million viewers across the 5 City Metro while the post-match program delivered 1.364 million viewers.

In Sydney, 1.153 million viewers watched the clash on Nine, with a peak of 1.257 million. Sydney saw a huge free-to-air audience share last night with Total People (51.9%), 25-54s (53.6%), 18-49s (57.4%) and 16-39s (58.6%) switching on to Nine.

In Brisbane, an audience of 908,000 watched their home team draw first blood in the 2012 series, making it the highest rating State of Origin match for Brisbane under OzTAM, with a peak of 982,000. Channel Nine in Brisbane had a massive

FTA share last night with Total People (57.4%), 25-54s (60.0%), 18-49s (63.2%) and 16-39s (64.1%).

The match was the most watched program of the night in Sydney and Brisbane across Total People and all key demographics: 25-54s, 18-49s and 16-39s.

The 2012 Harvey Norman State of Origin Game 1 won its timeslot across 25-54s,18-49s, 16-39s and Total People across the 5 City Metro, along the East Coast and in Sydney and Brisbane. In Melbourne, the match won its timeslot for Total People.

ANZ Stadium in Sydney will host Origin II on Wednesday, June 13, and Origin III will be played at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Wednesday, July 4.
