Finally Survivor: One World airs on Nine!
Show opens with Jeff announcing: “I’m flying over a remote Polynesian Island. Below me are 18 American’s already began the adventure of a lifetime.”
We meet some of the contestants:
Colton – Girls like me, guys aren’t going to find me a threat.
Alicia – if I find out one of these guys like me, they are going to get played.
Sushi Chef – I have a range of skills that will help me – how bad ass can a sushi chef be?
Others speak. (See details of al contestants here)
Jeff says that they think they have seen the game, they think they know the rules. But they are in for a huge change. This season, they will be dividied into two tribes and libve on one beach. For the first time ever: Two tribes, one camp, no rules – for first time, Who will stay true to their tribe? Who will form alliances with the enemy?
39 days, 18 people, one Survivor.
Survivors meet on the beach, Jeff lands. Contestants emerge from back of a truck. Jeff says: Welcome to Survivor! Cheers all round and: Yeah – finally.
Jeff speaks to the contestants. When asked where does she fit into the group, Courtney replies with nowhere, while Colton – the first openly gay contestant on Survivor – comments about another called Tarzan, saying that if he wants to swing and get me coconuts, that is OK with me. Meanwhile, Troyzan makes comment about Tarzan, claiming the island as his.
Time to divide into tribe. Jeff sends the boys to one side, the girls to another. It is Men Vs Women. Colton is shocked by this outcome, saying he is more like one of the girls. The women are smiling, the men are shocked. One of the girls say that men cannot survive without women.
The tribe names are Manono for the men, who will be orange, while the girls are Salani – blue.
They then have 60 seconds to strip everything they can off the truck that brought them to the beech and drop items out the front. People are everywhere taking what they can, but the guys start stealing from the girls pile from the truck, as the girls weren’t watcing there collection.
Men have the most stuff, girls, hardly anything. Women complain about their axe being stolen. Men say they did not take anything. Michael says it is too easy to steal from girls.
Jeff explains the basics of this season of Survivor. Hidden immunity idols are in play (of course!) but Redemption island is not, so once a contestant is eliminated they are gone for good – no second chance.
Both tribes are given maps. Men joke about women needed to read their map. Girsls say they are not worried about men at all.
The men make their way to their destinations. Tarzan complians about how much and how far he had to carry everything.
Lief – the short guy – was carrying the most without complaining. “He’s a buff little dude” saccording to one contestant.
The women also make their way to their camp. Kourtney talks about women being warm and accepting. Alicia says Kim, herself and Chelsea are stongest, Sabrina maybe as well and Kat. An alliance of five is already formed. Kim talks about women power.
The girls approach the beach only to find both groups are together in one spot. Oh my God! Mixed reactions from the girls ranging from it wil be a party to we are pissed. This is the first time in Survivor history that both tribes have ended up on the one beach.
Guys seem to show less concern. Colton says obviously we are together – you know – One World! It looks like more our world and their world says another.
The girls see the chickens – they want one, and one for the guys. Survivors running everywhere. Chelsea – a country girl – catches two chickens. Time to negotiate with the men. Chelsea wants to bargain. The girls talk.
Matt – thinks they should give them the chicken as an appology – not sure what for though! He thinks they need them more than the guys need the girls. Both tribes set about building their shelters.
Colton meshes with the girls – it is where he’d rather be. Matt discusses Colton being gay. Says he has no problem with that but that he’ll have a problem with fitting in with the men. He assures us they as a group have no problem with him being gay (Matt might be in the closet himself!).
Colton talks to Matt about how he can “get in” with the girls to the guy’s advantage. Matt thinks Colton will be going home real soon if he doesn’t fit in with the guys. Matt is arrogant according to Colton. Colton says Matt thinks he is runnig the show, but goes on to say that he will put out Matt’s torch.
Matt goes on about how the strong usually stay first. He has an allicance with three of the strongest guys there. He thinks he is sitting pretty.
Colton talks says to Christina saying he needs the idol more desperately than anyone else. He says his only hope he has is either an idol or Jesus showing up – and he ain’t showing up. Sabrina says she likes him.
Jay says he does not want to help the girls at all. The guys manage to make fire – very important in this game. Sabrina appears and tries to make a deal between the fire and the chicken. The guys decline.
Alicia tries to steal some fire. Troyzan thinks the girls are coocoo. They say they don’t need a chicken on day one. Troyzan says no way to get fire from guys on first day – they need to suffer for a day.
Into the night, the lack of fire on the girl’s camp is a burning issue (pun in tended!). Two girls wonder over to the guys. The girls think Tarzan is calling the shots, but they also suggest Matt and Bill. Jay says a deal with the girls at this point is ludicrous.
Monica and Christina try to sneak over while the men are sleeping to steal an ember from their fire. They succeed.
Salani Day 2. It’s pineapple for breakfast, and they talk about the fire – which didn’t last the night. They try to make their own. Christina talks about survival. She goes over to try and make a deal with the guys to work together. Jonas says they should weave 40 palms for the guys, and accepts.
Alicia says Christina will be first one to go as she is trying to be too friendly with the guys. Sabrina sets about looking for an idol – and finds one. But it comes with a condition. She opens and – it is for the Manono tribe. Oh my god – I have to give it to them before tribal council, she says.
Colton is the obvious choice for the idol. She takes him aside and offers to him. Colton says it is his saving grace.
Challenge time.
Come on in guys…
First immunity challenge. One at a time, jump from a 25 foot (8m) tower into a net below. Then race across a joint balance beam and make your way over a long rope bridge. Once all tribe members at the mat, raise your tribe flag. First tribe to raise their flag wins immunity and are safe from the vote. Losers go to tribal council, where somebody will be the first person voted out of Survivor One World and sent home. In addtion, you are playing for fire in the form of flint.
Jeff warns people how to fall properly. Off they go. Bill and Kat jump. Jonas than Sab. Jeff reminds them to land on their back. Nina, Troyzan ahead. Leif, then Kourtney – who falls hard on her hands. Again Jeff tells them how to fall properly.
With Kourtney’s fall you could hear a crack. She is in pain but tries to complete her part of the first stage of the challenge. She complains about her wrist while the other girls cheer her on. She reaches the end, Alicia goes next, At the same time Tarzan has gone for the boys. With Kourtney slowed down, the boys are now ahead by one.
Colton goes. Monica as well. Jay the last guy to jump. They have a one person lead, but the girls are catching up. In the balance beam round, Sab falls off and goes back for another attempt but Kourtney is asked if she is OK. She says she cannot go on.
Jeff calls off the challenge and calls in medical. She can barely move her fingers and hand. Looks like she has a broken bone. She’ll need an Xray.
Jeff updates everyone. Technically this challenge requires nine poeple to start and nine to finish. He declares the men as the winners and say they can send the women to tribal council. However, the men have the option to continue the challenge.
They talk about what they will do. Colton announces on bahelf of the guys that they will take the immunity and walk away from the challenge without completing it. The girls are disappointed. Christina pleeds. Troyzan says it is a game, and that the girls would make the same decision if the sitaution was reversed.
Chelsea says it is a no mercy game and that the guys don’t give a crap. The girls back at the camp say it is such a disappointment not to be able to finish the challenge. Kim says no guy she knows would make that choice.
The girls talk strategy to Colton. He appears to have the balance of power with the guys. It is this point, Sabrina gives him the idol. It is the big move he can make. Colton says Matt is in for a huge surprise.
The girls talk about who to vote out. They are swinging towards Kourtney, but not sure what will happen if she does not come back. Alicia wants Christina out due to her playing the guys.
Tribal Council.
The girls enter, grab their torches and get fire – part of the ritual of tribal council. The girls are asked about their feelings about being guys versus girls. Jeff asks Kat who the leader is, and says they all have roles they play. Christina discusses her deal with the fire, which Alicia calls shady. An argument develops. Chelsea says everyone is doing what ever they want. Say they can’t all agree on anything. Monica agrees there is no leader. Jeff says the guys are thinking the girls are in nutsville and are all over the place.
Jeff updates on Kourtney. Good news – she is doing fine, but her wrist is broken and will require surgery. So she is out of the game – first one out of Survivor: One World. The other good news is that nobody else is going home at their first tribal council, and the girls also get to go home with fire in any case.
Jeff tells the girsl that If they don’t get it together, none of them will make it though the next 36 days. That is what Jeff sends them home with tonight.
17 remain, who will be eliminated next?
Next episode – Total Dysfunction which aired straight after episode one at 11pm.
Nine currently plan to play two episodes per week, from Tuesdays 10pm.
