The Amazing Race Australia Season Two – Launch (Australia – Philippines)

It’s back and it’s better than ever! A second race around the world is about to begin! Who will be the winner?

We begin at Sydney heads for the starting of the new season! The teams fly in by sea planes for what will be the start of such an amazing race. We have a brief look at all the teams:

Shane & Andrew – Cops

Michelle & Jo – Cheerleading Twins

Sticky & Sam – Flatmates

James & Sarah – Dating

Adam & Dane – Cousins

Sue & Teresa – Hairdressers

Ross & Tarryn – Father/Daughter

Lucy & Emilia – Sisters

Kym & Donna – Engaged

Joseph & Grace – Brother/Sister

Paul & Steve – Workmates

The contestants rock up to the starting line for their first set of instructions. There are twelve legs in this race. It’s longer than ever, but more rewarding. Their first instruction is sitting on their backpacks in the background.

Instruction: Travel by foot to the Man-O-War step at the Sydney Opera House. They must then travel by boat to Barangaroo Wharf where they must choose a marked car amongst 24 black cars. They can only travel forward or reverse in order to leave the puzzling carpark.

Progress: At Man-O-War, Shane & Andrew make it to the boat first, followed by Paul & Steve. The teams are now on their way to the Wharf. Lucy & Emilia are taking their time, as are James & Sarah. Shane & Andrew begin their carpark maze first. Paul & Steve are second and they begin to work their way around the maze before choosing a car. Adam & Dane are in third with Sticky & Sam in fourth. They seem to find out they all have to co-operate with other teams to get out of the carpark. Michelle & Jo and Joseph & Grace are next into the carpark. Paul & Steve finish the course first. Out second are Dane & Adam, however they left incorrectly. The Cheerleaders are out third officially, with Sticky & Sam out second. Sue & Teresa make it to the carpark puzzle next with Ross & Tarryn. The sisters and Joseph & Grace are also there. Kym & Donna, Joseph & Grace and Ross & Tarryn are all out respectively, before Shane & Andrew! Dane & Adam, James & Sarah and Lucy & Emilia are all out next with Sue & Teresa in last.

Instruction 2: Fly to MANILA, PHILIPPINES and then head to the market district of Quiapo where they must search for a marked food vendor holding their next clue.

Progress: Contestants get a little bit lost on the way to the airport. The cheerleaders are still in first as they board the first plane.

Plane 1 (Arr. 6.20pm): All Teams

The cheerleaders and Paul & Steve remain in front. Ross & Tarryn have moved up the ranks on the way to the markets, as have Adam & Dane. The cheerleaders begin their search and find their first clue.

Instruction 3: Each Team must eat 8 Balut, a local delicacy. Balut are fertilised duck egg embryos that are boiled and then eaten.

Progress: The cheerleaders struggle here, and may lose their lead. Ross & Tarryn, Kym & Donna and Paul & Steve are next to taste the Balut. Donna is allergic to eggs, and can’t partake. Paul & Steve are really powering through this. Shane & Andrew are next to try. Paul & Steve are first to finish. Joseph & Grace & Adam & Dane then arrive. Grace actually likes this. Adam & Dane struggle. The flatmates run out of money on the cab fare to the markets. They, and the sisters, begin their snacking! The cheerleaders’ lead has now all but done. Donna & Kym finish second. Ross & Tarryn finish third. Grace & Joseph finish fourth with Adam & Dane finish fifth. Shane & Andrew are in sixth. Sue & Teresa and James & Sarah are next to begin the challenge. The sisters finish next. Sue & Teresa finish eighth with Sticky & Sam in ninth and now must find a cheap ride to the bus rank. James & Sarah are in tenth. Michelle & Jo then finish last.

Instruction 4: Teams must sign up for one of three charter busses (12.30am, 1.00am or 1.30am). They will travel to a fiesta in Daraga where they must find a snake charmer to receive their next clue.

Progress:

Bus 1 Passengers: Paul & Steve, Donna & Kym & Adam & Dane

Bus 2 Passengers: Joseph & Grace, Tarryn & Ross, Lucy & Emilia and Sticky & Sam

Bus 3 Passengers: Sue & Teresa, Sarah & James, Shane & Andrew and Michelle & Jo.

The next day, the teams arrive at their destination, Daraga. They quickly look for the next clue. Paul & Steve get their first and it is a detour. Adam & Dane and Kym & Donna finish next.

DETOUR: Teams must choose between two fiesta traditions.

PIG: Teams must take part in a game where they have to catch four oily pigs and bring them to the farmer. Chosen By: Paul & Steve (FINISH FIRST), Adam & Dane (FINISH SECOND), Sticky & Sam (FINISH FOURTH), Lucy & Emilia (FINISH SEVENTH), Tarryn & Ross (FINISH FIFTH), Joseph & Grace (FINISH SIXTH), Shane & Andrew (FINISH EIGHTH) & James & Sarah (FINISH NINTH).

JIG: Teams must learn and perform a traditional dance to impress judges. Chosen By: Kym & Donna (soon goes to PIGS; FINISH THIRD), Michelle & Jo (soon goes to PIGS; FINISH TENTH) & Sue & Teresa (FINISH ELEVENTH).

Instruction 5: Teams must travel by ‘Jeepneys’ to Misibis Bay. There, they’ll find their next clue.

Progress: Adam & Dane are there spot on with Paul & Steve. Donna & Kym rock up second. Sticky & Sam and Ross & Tarryn are next to arrive. Joseph & Grace, Shane & Andrew and Lucy & Emilia then arrive. The cheerleaders then begin their raft building challenge. Sue & Teresa arrive and are happy to see stalled teams.

PIT STOP: Teams must build a raft using only given implements. They must then paddle across the bay to Mosboron Beach, the first pit stop of the race.

Progress: Steve & Paul aren’t doing so well, but Adam & Dane are very confident with their raft. They go out floating in first. Paul & Steve then have a go, but it hardly works. Ross & Tarryn take their time. Kym & Donna have a go on the ocean. They make it, just before Paul & Steve. Adam & Dane near the finish line. Their raft begins to break up. They have to paddle back in and fix it. Ross & Tarryn are out. James & Sarah overtake Paul & Steve who have to go back to fix up their boat. Kym & Donna are doing well, but it is a heavy vessel. Tarryn & Ross are speeding through this. The sisters are having no luck but Sue & Teresa have gained some ground. Sticky & Sam are having a go, as are the cheerleaders. Donna & Kym are near the finish, but are overtaken by Ross & Tarryn. Here is how everyone goes at the pit stop. The sisters are struggling and ask for help, which actually is legal!

Pit Stop Rankings

First: ROSS & TARRYN ($10,000 Prize AND Salvage Pass (see below))

Second: DONNA & KYM

Third: JAMES & SARAH

Fourth: SUE & TERESA (How?!?! Good rowing, that’s how!)

Fifth: STICKY & SAM

Sixth: JOSEPH & GRACE

Seventh: MICHELLE & JO

Eighth: SHANE & ANDREW

Ninth: ADAM & DANE

Tenth: PAUL & STEVE (By the narrowest of margins)

Eleventh: LUCY & EMILIA

Result: Lucy & Emilia are last, however for coming first, Ross & Tarryn have a Salvage Pass. Here, they can save Lucy & Emilia or get an hour time advantage. They decide to SAVE Lucy & Emilia.

It’s quite emotional and really determined whether Ross & Tarryn would be this year’s villains or this year’s heroes. They’ve made the right choice!

The Amazing Race Australia next airs June 6 at 9PM on Seven.

I reckon they should have eliminated them! It was a silly thing for them to do to keep them. These games are not meant to play nicely! If that were me I would most likely send them home but perhaps they aren’t in it to win it!
