A man arrives with the clues and the teams must go to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Once there they must find the Atomic Blast Dome. Then, things get real. Phil tells us the tragic story about the A-bomb and the destroyed building that has remained untouched since the blast. All the teams take a real moment to reflect. Except for Dave who takes the moment to justify the bombing by talking about how many people died in Pearl Harbour.
Now teams must head to Osaka Japan by high speed bullet train! And they’re going to the TV 8 Studios to be a part of some crazy Japanese TV game show.
Rachel & Brendon and Rachel & Dave are taking the subway while Art & JJ and Vanessa & Ralph are taking a cab. It’s a mode of transportation race! And…the cab wins big time.
Roadblock: “Who wants to bring home the chicken?” Cut to the crazy, messed up, “hilarious” Japanese game show! Art runs in to the crowd chanting and a terribly stereotypical host. Team members must run on a treadmill and jump up and grab three rubber chickens dangling from the ceiling, alongside crazy noises and overly colourful everything. Art starts running, grabs a chicken and falls. Then again. And for the third time! Then he falls without grabbing a chicken. Twice. The Japanese crowd laughs at the crazy American. Unfortunately, Vanessa & Ralph’s cab driver took them to the wrong TV studio. Meanwhile Art & JJ finished the task and are in first place!
Now they must make their way to roof of the Umeda Sky Building and look for a pair of Windows 7 touch screens. Ralph & Vanessa arrive and Vanessa has to do the running and jumping roadblock with her bad ankle. Brendan and Rachel show up to the game show set right on their tail. All three are running and Brendan is kicking ass! Vanessa, on the other hand, is getting her ass kicked. Brendan gets scolded for diving onto the mat instead of making a clean landing and Big Brother Rachel is catching up. Brendan wins and then Rachel. Vanessa only has one chicken and Ralph is screaming at her to come over to him so he can hug her and tell her it’s okay. He tells her they can take the penalty because her ankle is hurting so badly. And as much as it pains us to say it, he’s right. In her confessional she says her ankle hurt so bad it was the worst moment of her life. SO what does she do? She takes off one of her shirts for some reason and keeps going! She is yelling in pain and grabs the third chicken! Now she just needs to land on the blue mat.
Art & JJ get to the sky building and get to the Windows 7 detour. Phil tells us this detour deals with two things the Japanese people are passionate about. Sushi and Sumo wrestling. In Bingo Shout Out teams must pick up sushi from a conveyor belt and put it on a bingo card. When the bingo caller calls out names of sushi the teams must identify the kind and mark off the card and get sushi bingo. Then the teams must eat all five winning pieces to get their next clue.
In Photo Cut Out, teams have to get a camera and life size cut outs of sumo wrestlers and get ten groups of 3 locals to take their picture in the cut out. Then they must eat the cut out. Art & JJ opt for sushi because they love bingo and sushi.
Vanessa finally finishes roadblock and they are on the way to the roadblock.
Rachel & Dave go for Sumo. Rachel & Brendon go for Sushi. Dave screams at Rachel for unzipping his bag. She said it wasn’t her.
Art & JJ arrive at the sushi place and the people there go NUTS when they arrive.
Rachel & Dave get their camera and start trying to get pictures with the cutout. Dave tells her to use her flowery personality to convince people. They realize that young people are the way to go and get their first set. Rachel tells Dave he needs to work on his charisma.
Art & JJ are slowly figuring out the task just as Rachel & Brendon arrive to more cheers at the sushi cocaine palace.
Rachel & Dave are hustling to get people. They literally need people to stand there for five seconds and still everyone is saying no. Then they find their groove and finish the task! They’re in first place and must head to Osaka Castle for the pit stop for this leg of the race! The last team to check in here WILL be eliminated.
Art & JJ get sushi bingo, pound all the sushi they need to eat and more and head out leaving Rachel & Brendon behind. Vanessa & Ralph arrive at Sushi just in time for Reality Rachel’s multi-weekly cry and breakdown.
And Rachel & Dave are team number one! Phil tells them that they tie the record for the most wins (7). They win a trip to New Zealand and Phil reminds them that it’s his homeland.
Rachel & Brendon get sushi bingo and are on their way leaving Vanessa & Ralph behind in last place. In the cab Reality Rachel freaks out about getting to the pit stop in time. Vanessa & Ralph gets sushi bingo and gets in the cab, which for some reason has a clothes line of baby clothes hanging in the trunk.
And the second team that finds the pit stop first is…Art & JJ!
Rachel & Brendon and Vanessa & Ralph are looking for the mat and Rachel & Brendon reach it first and are the third team to arrive. Therefore Vanessa & Ralph are eliminated.
