Previous Episode: The Block Season Five – Bathroom Week Wreaks Havoc
If Shelley didn’t give them enough money, Scotty should! It’s another Wednesday night challenge!
The contestants wake up to see some bikes sitting next to Scotty. It’s time for them to get to know their local neighbourhood. They grab a bike and tour South Melbourne. They head to a park where a bundle of wood is sitting for them.
Challenge Brief: They will be channelling their inner artist by building their very own sculpture to sit in the park! They have to use flat packs to build their structures. They will have no instructions. They have to select their pieces, put it all together, screw it all together and the winners will get $2,000. $1,000 goes to second place and third place gets $500.
They get on with it, but they have to work out which piece belongs to which team. Dan & Dani are going well until they hit a snag and nothing seems to fit any more. Dani gets frustrated. Dale & Sophie are doing OK actually, but it’s slow work. Brad & Lara are also going well after a slow start. They think they’re finished after not long. Scotty goes to check it. They have indeed won.
Result: Brad & Lara win $2,000.
Dan & Dani are no completely confused. In second place however are Mike & Andrew soon after.
Result: Mike & Andrew win $1,000. Sophie & Dale then soon after win the $500. Dan & Dani win nothing.
But it is not finished yet! It’s time to PAINT. The first contestant to apply two coats of paint on their structure correctly will win ONE bonus point.
They can’t move on until they have the OK for the first paint. Dan & Dani don’t get the all clear but Brad & Lara and Mike & Andrew also have problems. Dan & Dani are first for their second coat. Brad & Lara are next. Soon, Mike & Andrew and Sophie & Dale follow.
Result: Brad & Lara finish first. They get a bonus point.
Mike & Andrew are annoyed but it’s the name of the game. The team clean up the sculptures, position them and look at them all at an angle. From afar, the four sculptures spell the word ‘LESS’. From another angle, they see the word ‘MORE’. Less is more and it is advice from the judges.
The contestants then go back for late night work. The next morning, work continues yet again. Keith inspects Dale’s floor and has to pull up the underlay and make them start again, setting him back about half a day. Meanwhile, Brad & Lara’s tiler notices the underlay hasn’t been cleaned properly, so they need to harden the floor up more. This means Stegbar can’t walk around the bathroom to take measurements for glass which will set them back further. Keith then goes to Brad & Lara’s house and realise the underlay work is worse than expected. It hasn’t bonded at all- it’s just sand.
This is a full day’s job- not good. Mike & Andrew also find issues caused by Stegbar, which will set them back more. Brad & Lara work on their new floor concrete and Keith is happy with it.
The Block next airs May 17 at 7PM on Nine.
