Australia v Brazil – Farewell Series: The Road To London Hosted by ABC TV’s Stephanie Brantz, ABC1 will cover the 3-game ‘Farewell Series’ between the No2 ranked Australian Opals Women’s Basketball team and the No6 ranked Brazilians in their final preparation on home soil before this year’s London Olympic Games.
International stars Lauren Jackson and Liz Cambage along with veteran legends Kristi Harrower and Suzy Batkovic headline the Opals team, along with rising star and WNBL champion Jenna O’Hea. They get set to face South American powerhouse Brazil as they prepare for a crack at a fifth consecutive medal in London.
Basketball Australia Interim CEO Scott Derwin said that there is no better time than the upcoming Farewell Series for basketball fans to come out and see their favourite Aussie basketball players in action.
“The Australian Opals will be heading into the upcoming Farewell Series towards the latter part of their extensive London 2012 preparations,” he said.
“So, although the Series will give our coach and team the great opportunity to put some final pieces in place against some quality opposition in Brazil, it also gives our fans the opportunity to see their stars, not only in absolute pristine physical condition, but also at their peaks in terms of on-court basketball performance. So we urge all basketball fans to get out and see the Opals at their scintillating best,” he said.
