MasterChef Australia Season Four – Mario Mohorko Eliminated

Previous Episode: MasterChef Australia Season Four – Shangri-La 24-Hour Challenge

Emma, Filippo, Kylie, Tregan, Julia, Sam, Mario, Debra and Amina. Another lot of contestants bitten by the curse of the red team. However, the curse will only prove fatal to one- but whom?

It’s a solemn day; no one wants to leave. Too bad! The three main judges wait for them in the kitchen.

Challenge Brief: Today’s challenge consists of three rounds. The first round, they will have unlimited pantry time, unlimited ingredients and unlimited options of things to cook. The top four dish-cookers will be saved.

Conditions: 20 minutes cooking time! Yep, that’s the catch!

Progress: We here some dish ideas in the pantry, including a Carbonara from Mario. Hopefully no one bites off too much. Amina is doing a Korean salad and she is confident it is a quick and tasty dish. Emma is doing some sort of soup. She seems extremely stressed. Kylie is channelling her inner Italian here.

Filippo is working on some calamari but he has only 4 minutes to go and so much to do. Can he get it done in time? Debra is someone who also seems behind time. Soon, time is all up.

Tasting & Results

Filippo

Cooking: Salt & Pepper Squid.

Comments: There is a beak in his dish. George likes the flavours.

Kylie

Cooking: Chicken Saltimbocca

Comments: Gary loves the dish and wants to eat the rest of it.

Amina

Cooking: Korean Noodle Salad.

Comments: It’s well received and Gary calls it gorgeous.

Debra

Cooking: Baked flathead.

Comments: George calls it yum.

Julia

Cooking: Vegetarian Yum Kha.

Comments: Matt doesn’t seem to get the flavours.

Mario

Cooking: Pappardelle Carbonara.

Comments: George would have loved more care in the dish.

Tregan

Cooking: Maltese Froga

Comments: Gary is not a fan of the presentation.

Sam

Cooking: White fish tasting plate.

Comments: Matt likes everything except the sashimi.

Emma

Cooking: Cucumber Gazpacho

Comments: Matt absolutely loves it, except for one thing. A hair. Emma breaks down. Of course this would happen!

Results: The best four dishes belong to Kylie, Filippo, Amina and Debra.

Emma, Sam, Tregan, Mario and Julia head to round two.

Challenge 2: Same deal as challenge 1. The three best dishes will be safe.

Conditions: 10 Minutes cooking time (Yeah, that’s what I thought!!)

Progress: The judges give out one hint- stay away from the oven! Not long however Sam seems to want to do lamb cutlets. George is concerned and tells him he wouldn’t do it. Tregan is doing some sautéed mushrooms. Julia is making some breakfast- French toast! Time is soon up and tasting begins.

Tasting & Results

Emma

Cooking: Squid.

Comments: George calls it delicious and yum.

Sam

Cooking: Grilled Lamb cutlets.

Comments: Matt says he pushed himself too far.

Mario

Cooking: Thai Salad

Comments: He has a go at Filippo’s beak-laden dish before tasting. Gary loves the freshness but says it is missing something textural.

Tregan

Cooking: Crostini

Comments: Matt says it is good.

Julia

Cooking: Honey Caramelised figs with French Toast.

Comments: George loves the combination but says it isn’t Julia great.

Results: The people who are saved are Tregan, Emma and Sam. Mario and Julia are battling it out in elimination!

Challenge Brief: Same deal again.

Conditions: 5 minutes cooking time!

Progress: They seem to take their time in the pantry! Oh, and ‘the ring’! is back. Mario is going for a prosciutto salad. Julia seems to be going for a dessert. This seems like it is in real time. I wouldn’t be surprised. Somehow, they both manage to plate up in time!

Tasting & Results

Mario

Cooking: Peach & Prosciutto salad

Comments: Matt loves the salad, saying it is simple.

Julia

Cooking: Misses what it was called- some sort of panna cotta.

Comments: George calls it clever and smart, calling it a great dish.

Results: The contestant leaving MasterChef Australia 2012 in Eighteenth Place is Mario!

In my opinion, Julia’s last dish was amazing, so this is no surprise. I don’t think Mario had a good week this week, so I’m not too surprised by this. What do you think?

MasterChef Australia next airs Jun 15 at 7PM on TEN.

Julia’s creation in the final round was strawberry parfait I think.
The time limit in the rapid fire challenges really tested the contestants’ creativity. Seriously, what could they put up in just five minutes?
