The Amazing Race Australia Season Two – India - UAE

Previous Episode: The Amazing Race Australia Season Two – In India

We go from wet, humid India to the dry, scorching Emirates. This show can really put contestants through their cultural strides, and tonight is NO exception.

TEAMS:

Shane & Andrew – Cops

Michelle & Jo – Cheerleading Twins

Sticky & Sam – Flatmates

James & Sarah – Dating

Ross & Tarryn – Father/Daughter

Lucy & Emilia – Sisters

Kym & Donna – Engaged

Joseph & Grace – Brother/Sister

Paul & Steve – Workmates

The leg begins in Jaipur, the last pit stop. Sticky and Sam were first to check in and will be first to depart at just after 1.30pm. Ross & Tarryn are next to leave. Both teams head quick to the travel agent before the airport. Next to leave are the cheerleaders before Kym & Donna. Paul & Steve are next to leave before Shane & Andrew, Sarah & James and Grace & Joseph. Last to leave 2 hours later are Lucy & Emilia.

Instruction: Teams must fly to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where they must search the airport car park for their next clue. Before this, contestants must vote at the first ever U-Turn where teams must vote for one team to complete both sides of the detour.

UTURN VOTES

Sticky & Sam: PAUL & STEVE

Tarryn & Ross: PAUL & STEVE

Michelle & Jo: PAUL & STEVE

Kym & Donna: PAUL & STEVE

Paul & Steve: STICKY & SAM

Shane & Andrew: PAUL & STEVE

Joseph & Grace: PAUL & STEVE

Sarah & James: LUCY & EMILIA

Lucy & Emilia: SHANE & ANDREW

Result: Paul & Steve will take the U-Turn.

The contestants get on a train to New Delhi before rushing to the airport.

Flight 1, 6.10am ARRIVAL in DUBAI: Kym & Donna, Shane & Andrew, James & Sarah, Michelle & Jo, Sticky & Sam and Joseph & Grace.

Flight 2, 8.15am ARRIVAL in DUBAI: Paul & Steve, Lucy & Emilia and Ross & Tarryn.

Flight one touches down and the race is back on. Joseph & Grace find the clue first.

Detour: Dune Bash or Camel Dash. They must travel to the Alfaqa Desert.

DUNE BASH: Teams must drive a dune buggy around a 10km course on a very sandy path. (GRACE & JOSEPH, KYM & DONNA, JAMES & SARAH, STICKY & SAM, PAUL & STEVE (MUST DO BOTH), ROSS & TARRYN and LUCY & EMILIA)

CAMEL DASH: Teams must navigate around a short course and collect four coloured flags, all while on a camel! (MICHELLE & JO (change to DUNE BASH) and SHANE & ANDREW (change to DUNE BASH))

On the way, the word ‘Alfaqa’ provided some miscommunication. They find it hard to find the dessert. Grace & Joseph get to the dune course first and begin their challenge. Michelle & Jo make it to the camels first, second overall. It’s so funny to watch this! They have to change because they can’t get their camel moving. Grace & Joseph get bogged on the dune course. Grace wastes time by making sand angels. Meanwhile, Kym & Donna and Michelle & Jo begin their course. It’s not long before the cheerleaders get bogged. Kym & Donna finish second just after Joseph & Grace.

Shane & Andrew begin their camel ride and they do a much better job, but can’t seem to steer. Sticky & Sam meanwhile are doing the Dune bash and just pass the cheerleaders without helping. They soon get bogged themselves. James & Sarah begin their dune bash. Meanwhile, the other plane FINALLY Arrives. Back to the dunes and the cheerleaders are back on and get karma after passing Sticky and Sam.

Shane & Andrew soon begin their dune buggy trek. Sticky & Sam get helped out of the bog…but soon bog again. James & Sarah finish the challenge.

Ross & Tarryn, Paul & Steve and Lucy & Emilia begin their buggy bash.  The latter get bogged pretty early on. Sticky & Sam finally finish just before Shane & Andrew. Paul & Steve complete the buggy challenge…and here’s the fun part! Ross & Tarryn also finish. Paul & Steve go back to the camels. Lucy & Emilia are still struggling. Paul & Steve finally do well on the camel challenge…but short of the fourth flag, the camel has a hissy fit! They recompose themselves before triumphing the challenge and moving on. Lucy & Emilia finish concurrently.

Instruction: Drive to the Wild Wadi in Dubai. It’s a water park. Here contestants must ride on a surf machine and need to get enough ‘air’ to reach their next clue. Here, teams must also check to see if they’ve been U-Turned. If you’re not Paul & Steve; don’t worry.

At the Wild Wadi, Grace & Joseph begin the Wild Wadi challenge and soon progress. Kym & Donna get unstuck travelling to the Wild Wadi; crashing their car and getting a bust tyre. Kym gets his mechanical skills in order to fix the tyre but the problem is they don’t have any idea how to get to their destination. Michelle & Jo get there next and head to the racecourse. James & Sarah and Kym & Donna are next to complete the challenge. Sticky & Sam are quick with this one, as are Shane & Andrew, who grab 2 clues! Ross & Tarryn also have a go and get a clue straight away!

Ross wants a go before they leave though haha! Kym & Donna are still struggling and Kym seems to give up, slamming his door shut after leaving the car and proclaiming to quit. Donna is in tears. He soon calms down and comforts his girlfriend. Paul & Steve both have a go and finish quick, shortly followed by Lucy & Emilia who, again, have no luck to begin with.

Instruction: Drive to the Meydan Racecourse. Once there, teams must pick a winning horse to receive their next clue. Failure to pick a winning means they must carry their partner over the finish line.

Joseph goes around asking for all the advice he can get and they choose 7 and 5. No one wins. By the time race 2 comes along, Michelle & Jo are there. The cheerleaders choose 9. No one wins the second race. By the third race, James & Sarah make it to the races and choose 8. No luck again for anyone. Not many races left here. Shane & Andrew & Ross & Tarryn are on their way with Shane & Andrew getting help from local authorities. Sticky & Sam are next to arrive to join the other three teams.

They all seem to go for the same horse (8), except the cheerleaders. Shane & Andrew also arrive. The teams try to distract the cops to stop them from competing in the fourth race. They don’t succeed. Eight wins, sending James & Sarah, Joseph & Grace and Sticky & Sam to the next part of the race.

For the second to last race, Michelle & Jo correctly guess the winners and are on their way. The cops are left in their dust.

For the final race, it seems to be just the cops. They’ll be piggy backing thought, so they begin their piggy back.

On their way to the racecourse, Lucy & Emilia drive into a royal palace, and have their passport confiscated and are taken to a police centre! They are soon released. Ross & Tarryn make it to the racecourse next and begin their piggy back before Steve & Paul have a go.

Lucy & Emilia begin their piggy back. Where are Kym & Donna? They still haven’t made it to Wild Wadi!

PIT STOP: Burj Khalifa.

Joseph & Grace left their lights on and their car gets a flattie. They soon get help and are on their way. James & Sarah and Sticky & Sam are in a race.

First Place: JAMES & SARAH (Win an NZ Holiday)

Second Place: STICKY & SAM

Third Place: JOSEPH & GRACE

Fourth Place: MICHELLE & JO

Fifth Place: SHANE & ANDREW

Sixth Place: PAUL & STEVE

Seventh Place: ROSS & TARRYN

Eighth Place: LUCY & EMILIA

Ninth Place: KYM & DONNA (Don’t make it to the pit stop)

RESULT: Kym & Donna HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM THE AMAZING RACE AUSTRALIA.

The Amazing Race Australia next airs June 25 at 7.30PM on Seven.

The pitstop is actually the helipad on top of the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in downtown Dubai, Grant Bowler did not mention the location clearly so many people were misguided.
Frustration is the theme of tonight’s episode. Teams got bogged down in the desert, then lost their bets at the races, and in between many teams got lost in the traffic. I feel sorry in particular for Kym & Donna and Lucy & Emilia. I think the camera crew should have told Lucy & Emilia that they were entering the royal palace before they got into further trouble.
