What do a pair of cops, hairdressing hippies and workmates have in common? They and a bunch of other people are about to go on stampede to one of the most densely populated regions of the world in search for a massive prize fund.
TEAMS:
Shane & Andrew – Cops
Michelle & Jo – Cheerleading Twins
Sticky & Sam – Flatmates
James & Sarah – Dating
Adam & Dane – Cousins
Sue & Teresa – Hairdressers
Ross & Tarryn – Father/Daughter
Lucy & Emilia – Sisters
Kym & Donna – Engaged
Joseph & Grace – Brother/Sister
Paul & Steve – Workmates
We begin the episode at the last pit stop, Misibis Bay in Philippines.
Instruction: Fly to Delhi, India. Here they must make their way to a 2,000 year old well and locate a turban worn by someone in a crowd of turban wearing people. If the turban is empty, they must retie them and keep searching. The correct turban is the key for the next clue.
Ross & Tarryn are first to leave at just before 1am in the morning. They each have $50 for this leg of the race. Lucy & Emilia, the last team to leave; do so well after 3am. They all get to the airport. The teams reach the airport in completely different placings than they were in when they left the bay. James & Sarah begin arguing because Sarah wants a drink and James want to save money.
Plane 1, 6.25am (via Bangkok): ALL TEAMS
The taxi drivers are pretty mental there- Sue & Teresa are almost thrown out of the cab. Sarah is still arguing about the drink. The teams are able to catch up to each other as the well isn’t opening for another five hours.
There, they begin their quest for the golden turban! Sticky & Sam find the turban first and receive the next clue. Lucy & Emilia have little luck with this. They do find it soon. Paul & Steve are not happy to be in last place with the cheerleaders, and get frustrated when they finish the challenge in last place.
DETOUR
Pull: Teams must travel to a dairy farm and milk a cow for half a litre of milk. (Teams participating are: Sticky & Sam (later change to POO), Ross & Tarryn, Shane & Andrew, Sue & Teresa, Kym & Donna, Adam & Dane, James & Sarah, Joseph & Grace, Michelle & Jo & Paul & Steve (Later change to POO))
Poo: Teams must use their hands to mould dung and hay into dung bricks. They have to cover a wall with them. (Teams participating are: Lucy & Emilia)
Shane & Andrew get into a rickshaw whose driver has no idea where they are going, and when they get out and into another one, the other driver gets out and confronts their new driver- slowing the team down. Ross & Tarryn make it to PULL first and begin their challenge. Tarryn gets frustrated when it doesn’t work. Sticky & Sam also find it hard to get their milk. Sue & Teresa are pros at this. Meanwhile, Sue & Teresa have fun dealing with shit. It proves to be a hard challenge for Sticky and the first time his loss of arm has presented a challenge in this game. They have to do the POO challenge instead.
Sue & Teresa finish first and get the next clue. Ross & Tarryn are next to finish. The cheerleaders enjoy the challenge, especially the part when the cow has to…do its business! Back at the poo challenge and the sisters tell the flatmates the trick to the challenge and they end up leaving the girls behind!
Instruction: Star in a Bollywood extravaganza! Teams must travel to an old fort and find a Bollywood Set and perform a Bollywood dance routine and Hindi script to the satisfaction of the director to receive their next clue.
Sue & Teresa rehearse and perform first. They seem to struggle with the Hindi. Ross & Tarryn don’t do well at the dancing, so both teams are in strife. Adam & Dane just bomb out completely. Sticky & Sam actually smash it out and finish first. Actually, this proves to be a fantastic time for people to catch up with Michelle & Jo jumping to third place (thanks to experience) after the hairdressers who leave second. Tarryn & Ross, Adam & Dane and Kym & Donna all finish and head to the pit stop.
On the way to the pit stop, Adam & Dane and Ross & Tarryn try to catch a train (other teams do not do this)! They don’t have money and wonder how they will get there. They sell their shoes for money and end up being able to pay for a cab fare.
Must say, I loved some of the performances here- such as those from Lucy & Emilia and James & Sarah.
PIT STOP
Travel to Qutub Minar, an Islamic shrine. Here’s how teams went:
First: STICKY & SAM (Won: Trip to Japan’s MotoGP)
Second: MICHELLE & JO
Third: SUE & TERESA
Fourth: TARRYN & ROSS
Fifth: PAUL & STEVE
Sixth: KYM & DONNA
Seventh: ADAM & DANE (Who can’t be checked in because they sold their shoes. This is against rules and requires a 30 minute time penalty.)
Due to the rule break, this is how the rest of the proceedings went:
Seventh: SHANE & ANDREW
Eighth: JOSEPH & GRACE
Ninth: SARAH & JAMES
Tenth: LUCY & EMILIA
Eleventh: ADAM & DANE
Result: As Adam & Dane are last to arrive…THEY HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM THE RACE.
A shocking elimination to say the least. Did Adam & Dane deserve it? I don’t think the rules have been made clear enough to the viewers, but I can see why it would be a breach. Either way, they’re not my favourite team so I couldn’t care less.
The Amazing Race Australia next airs June 13 at 9PM on Seven.
