Previous Episode: The Block Season Five – Unlocked Week 9
This week will be brutal! The final week will see all these contestants work on their massive outdoor areas. But before all that, how did these guys cope with the heat of the kitchen?
There is 24 hours left but with so much to do, the brothers are FINALLY caving under sleep deprivation. Thankfully they have two bonus points.
This week, contestants have also been fixing a room the judges hated, called the Room Saver, and Dan already likes his and Dani’s revamped hallway. Dale & Sophie are almost done fixing their first week dining room. Brad & Lara are also working on their first week room, which was criticised for a lack of mantle over the fireplace. It’s one thing they don’t want to do; but today, they’re putting it back in!
The brothers are working on their slammed bar and rooftop terrace. They seem to be quite exhausted, working on these two rooms and their VERY complex kitchen. They have to do all their shopping today, so they bolt out and grab a few things. Speaking of, Dale & Sophie seem to be working flat out on theirs. They seem to be happy with how things are going.
Lara is about to go shopping, but her car isn’t big enough, so she hopes she can borrow the brother’s car. No can do, as they too have a lot of shopping to do. Lara is not happy at all as she hasn’t had use of the big car for three weeks. She thinks it is time for a swap, but for now, she is stuck with the Swift. A small fight breaks out between Lara and Brad & the brothers. Luckily, Dale’s van is available just before the brothers get home.
Lara grabs some timber for their room and hopes Brad is OK with it. It’s industrial timber and Brad isn’t happy with it. They are happy with their lights though. Meanwhile, Dan & Dani are putting together their herb garden.
Meanwhile, during the night, Dale and Brad decide to break into the Mitre 10 Block Shop after hours! Eek. The contestants work throughout the night in order to complete their rooms. Dan & Dani have a bicker as per usual. Mike & Andrew are cutting things mighty fine, not having started furnishing their new wet bar and rooftop area. There’s half an hour left!
Brad & Lara finish early by the look of things. Soon though, it’s the same case for everyone as time runs out.
Room Reveal
This year, contestants are scored out of 30- 10 points per judge. Comments on the room-savers not included as they weren’t aired however first score is for the room-saver + second score for kitchen. WINNERS BASED ON KITCHEN SCORE ONLY!!!
Dan & Dani’s room (Room saver makes new good impression.
Neale Whitaker: Likes the space, saying it is modern and functional.
Shaynna Blaze: Says the kitchen looks fantastic and says it opens up well. Says nothing stands out, which is good.
John McGrath: Likes the styling. Likes the sink but wants a bit of recessing. He says they have a good eye for detail.
Shaynna: 7.5 + 8.5
John: 7 + 8
Neale: 8 + 8
Overall Score: 22.5 + 24.5

Dale & Sophie’s room (Loved the new room-saver room)
Neale Whitaker: Says the kitchen has wow factor. Loves the splashback and calls the modern/retro feel clever.
Shaynna Blaze: Says the room has full on personality. Doesn’t seem to like the single sink.
John McGrath: No real comment.
Shaynna: 8 + 9.5

Brad & Lara’s room (They love their room-saver, but wants more- which is confusing)
Neale Whitaker: Love the lights.
Shaynna Blaze: Says it is huge. Big tick for the recessed sink. Says the desk is brilliant.
John McGrath: Thinks the map on their counter is cool and so do the other judges. He says they have utilised the room well. Can see some rushed elements.
Shaynna: 7.5 + 8.5
John: 7 + 8
Neale: 7.5 + 8.5

Mike & Andrew’s room (Judge’s now feel comfortable in their room-saver, but the laundry still disappoints)
Neale Whitaker: Calls the kitchen spacious and says it flows. Loves the splashback and bench top. The sink worries him.
Shaynna Blaze: Says it looks good and loves the dropped ceiling. Gives them a tick. She loves the surfaces and style.
John McGrath: Calls the kitchen a big risk but thinks it has worked for them. Calls the ceiling a master stroke.
Mike & Andrew use TWO bonus Points.
