The Block Season Five – Scotty Turns The Tables

Previous Episode: The Block Season Five – Kitchen Week Chaos

How important can a challenge involving table building possibly be? Duh, it’s a Scotty challenge- there must be something up his sleeve!

Contestants are mid-way through kitchen week and they need cash. They all wake up to another challenge day! They are called to Eco Timber where Scott is waiting for them.

Challenge Brief: To design their own living room table. They have to choose their timber type (Light or dark) and their table will be assembled by professionals. They have to find their own legs and chairs, and have to be creative. $5,000 is up for grabs. They have 2 hours and $500 at their disposal. They can’t buy chairs- only beg or borrow!

Idea creating begins, but Dale & Sophie have no idea what to do! Brad & Lara want to make legs out of soup tins, which has to be the wackiest idea I’ve ever heard of. Dan & Dani want to make illuminated legs with Mike & Andrew planning on using some scrap metal. They are undecided.

Sophie & Dale then begin on an idea involving using Lego blocks to build their legs! Should make for a colourful finish. Brad & Lara finish their shop with smiles- however Dan & Dani’s complex idea isn’t going to plan. Their illuminated leg idea is not going to work, so they want to do champagne bottle legs instead. Mike & Andrew meanwhile, are still undecided.

They find some motor heads which need to be cleaned; a job that will take hours- but the boys go with it anyway! Christ. Meanwhile, Dan & Dani are arguing as the contestants try to pull their shopping together. Sophie & Dale find some chairs, and they seem done. Dan & Dani are only now looking for items for their legs. Soon, all contestants are ready to return to the workshop and they begin work on their dining tables.

2 hours remain on this challenge as they begin work. Brad & Lara empty their tins into a tub, but I wouldn’t eat it! Sophie & Dale are enjoying creating their blocky table legs. The brothers are not there. Dan & Dani’s champagne legs are not going together as well as they want it to and they begin arguing. Brad & Lara and Dale & Sophie are almost finishing when Mike & Andrew return with their motor heads. They have a lot of catching up to do. Brad is actually envious over their table in the end.

Soon, time is up for everyone and all the tables look…unique. But there is another part to this challenge.

They now have to create a dinner party window display with their tables in the Myer Melbourne windows.

They head to Myer and they are given some time to run amok and use some of the stock to find items to fill their window! Again, Sophie & Dale seem to have come up with a kid’s table idea. It’s creative, but surely not a winner. The dining setting of the brothers is a bit…odd. I do like Brad & Lara’s and Dan & Dani’s. Very nice. Soon, their time is up and their display opens! Who will win?

The Block next airs Jun 14 at 7PM on Nine.
