Previous Episode: The Block Season Five – Exterior Week Fight To The Finish
Outdoor week is taking its toll, so what better way to have a breather than with a day out on the green?
We begin the episode with a bickering Dan & Dani. They’re complaining about moving paint tins. Meanwhile, work is frantic and there’s no sign of slowing down. We find out that fences have blocked off access to the Mitre Ten shop.
Brad & Lara are out shopping, not able to decide whether to shop for themselves or for the judges.
After the break, Dan is in his element, working on some decking. Dani thinks he isn’t giving her enough credit. They wanted to use a homemade table for outdoors but it isn’t suitable so they go buy one. Dani stretches the bank account a bit. Meanwhile, the brothers decide to do some manual work to save money on labour. Lara is also doing a bit for her house, as is Dale while Sophie is painting things inside.
Lara and Dani then discuss neighbourly love. Dani seems jealous that Lara & Sophie get on so well but not with her.
After the break, the contestants find some odd flags, signalling the beginning of another Scotty challenge.
Challenge Brief: It’s an inter-house event- a chance for them to represent their houses in the sports carnival. Scott will be giving out a total of $8,000 in cash for today’s events. The next day, a double decker bus picks them up and takes them to where Albert Park Lake where marine sports await them…and Shelley.
Destination 1: Sailing, kayaking, paddle-boating.
Brief: Out there on the lake are four building items that they have to collect. The first house back with all four items get $1,000. Second back gets $500, third back gets $250. Fourth place gets nothing.
There’s a bit of foul play as the game almost falls apart with contestants boat hopping, like Dan! Midway, Dani hops onto another boat to get a tool, and their personal boat begins to pull away due to Dan’s incompetent rowing skills and the wind. Dani panics about jumping, causing an argument. Shelley & Scott seem to love this!
It’s actually Dan who is more pissed off at this. The team won’t give up without a fight, but their chances are slim. She tries to sabotage Dale & Sophie, but she ends up worse for wear. She seems to piss people off.
Result: The brothers are in first, winning $1,000. Sophie & Dale are in second, but with no fourth item because Dani tried to grab it off of them and dropped it in the water in the process. Shelley gives them the $500 anyway. Brad & Lara go in third with Dan still blowing away ‘towards Tasmania’, according to Scott, who tells him to keep going if he wants to avoid the wrath of Dani.
Dan & Dani have an on-screen fight to finish off the challenge. Anyway, they all head to Melbourne university where wheelbarrows and paint cans are lying everywhere.
Challenge 2: Giaan Rooney is invited in to act as a…well, I don’t know. Today’s task is wheelbarrow hurdling. One will be in the wheelbarrow and one will be pushing. They have to pick up a paint tin of water and fill up a container which, when full, would raise a banner. Contestants would have to swap roles relay-style.
Result: Dan & Dani come in first, Dale & Sophie in second, Mike & Andrew in third and Brad & Lara in fourth. Money allocations are the same as the first challenge. Dan & Dani seem happier now.
Final Challenge: Held at Trinity College, Shane Crawford comes to help with this one. One team member has to hit tennis balls to the other member who will load it into a ball flinger which they must use to knock the neighbour’s doors down. This challenge is worth $3,000. The second place getter gets $1,000 with third place getting $500 with last place getting nothing.
Result: Dan & Dani’s door goes down last, putting them in last. Mike & Andrew’s are next down, giving them $500. Brad & Lara win $3,000 with Dale & Sophie getting $1,000.
Overall, Dan & Dani have made $1,000. Mike & Andrew get $1,750. Dale & Sophie on $2,000 come in second. Brad & Lara get $3,250 to finish first.
The Block next airs Jun 21 at 7PM on Nine.
