Previous Episode: The Block Season Five – Shelley’s Blooming Challenge
Dale & Sophie have won $5,200; $2,600 of which has to come out of someone’s budget. Who will get the slog?
This week, the contestants must complete their living and dining room and the contestants have little cash to do anything. Yesterday, Dale & Sophie won Shelley’s challenge- but in doing so- they must now take $2,600 from their neighbours. Who will they choose?
Dan & Dan are sceptical as they’re not liked competitors. Love the ‘Game On Moles’ reference by Dani there. They have no money, and they don’t even have enough money to afford a complete dining set. Meanwhile, Brad & Lara are doing some DIY work with Keith and Asho happy with Lara’s insulating job. Mike & Andrew have no cash either, despite winning heaps of cash at challenges. They don’t know how anyone will complete their indoor space.
Mike & Andrew moved the living room and kitchen in week one to each other’s rooms, but this means they have to pay extra to change plumbing. Meanwhile, back to their utility room and their plumbing is a bit shoddy. Their pipes are already blocked. They have to test the waterproofing to make sure it is OK. It’s not, and they have to fix it. Luckily no ceiling has been put up.
Mike & Andrew go out to spend whatever money they have so Dale & Sophie takes it from them. No one else seems to have that much cash. To get some more, Dani takes some unused items back to stores and getting refunds. They also wonder about getting a chippie to create a table themselves. Dan doesn’t like the idea. But, with Dale & Sophie coming around with a money vacuum, they have to come up with something. Meanwhile, their cabinet maker pulls the plug- stuffing up their living room. They do have other options, so hopefully they come through.
After the break, it’s decision day.
Result: Sophie & Dale decide to split the money three ways- however in the case of Dan & Dani; they will accept their offer of their bonus point as their share of the cut.
Interesting decision there- and one I did no see coming. But really, despite it not being against the rules- is being allowed to give up a bonus point rather than money too much of a stretch of the rules?
Unfortunately for Dani, she did not realise that her bonus point would only count for their share. She thought the bonus point would be worth the full $2,600. They decide to just accept the $866.66 loss. Unfortunately, they have no money for it!
But, there is some good news- the plumbing is now connected- meaning water is now flowing into the house’s baths, showers and toilets. It seems it is goodbye to the old crappy outhouse shower and toilet. Meanwhile, Dan & Dani’s kitchen maker has given them good news- he can get their cabinets done- but how much will it cost?
Dale goes out to get timber for what Sophie describes as ‘stupid stuff’. But, now all that money stuff is ‘sorta’ sorted out, all teams get back into renovating. Dan & Dani finish their ceiling and Dani gets the nail-gunning done.
