Previous Episode: The Block Season Five – Living & Dining Room Reveal
Today’s Shelley’s challenge should be a hoot as it sees the return of last year’s winners Polly & Waz to whip up some chaos! And they’re not the only 2011 contestants making a comeback…
Contestants are working on their new room, their kitchen, however with garden week coming up; Keith wants their outdoor areas clear of all debris. Keith threatens to throw any unmoved stuff away. After the break though, there’s an ‘engagement’ to be had- as told by Shelley’s message. Off they go for another challenge!
Challenge Brief: They’re at Como House where Shelley wants to see their entertainment skills in action. Brad & Lara are centre of attention here with a ‘wedding’ feel in the air. Luckily, there won’t be any weddings today. Instead, couples Polly & Waz and JOSH & JENNA have returned to help today’s two teams determined by a throw of the bouquet. Their challenge is to create a gazebo.
Teams: Brad & Lara and Dale & Sophie on Team 1 with Mike & Andrew and Dan & Dani on Team 2.
They begin on their gazebo. I wonder how much time they have. They seem to make fast work of it- surely it’s not the only element to this challenge! Dan & Dani & Mike & Andrew finish first but Team 1 finish only seconds later.
At this moment, Polly & Waz and Josh & Jenna walk in. It’s so surreal to hear them referred to as ‘old contestants’. It feels just like yesterday they were sweating it out on The Block. Waz has done something to his leg.
Challenge Brief: With $1,000 and 5 hours at their disposal, they have to work with their clients to create the perfect wedding. The winners get $5,000.
Team 2 is with Josh & Jenna with Team 1 set with Polly & Waz. After some consultation, it’s time to plan! 4 hours remain and they begin to shop. Their event must include something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue! Sophie, Waz and Dale begin to sabotage Josh’s car as he goes out looking for material. They even steal his GPS.
Dan is at the garden doing some painting as the girls sort out…flowery things. The other men in the team are not happy they spent $500 on flowers. The other team only spend $300 on their flowers. For some reason, after shopping, only 1 and a half hours remain. We are reminded of Jenna’s highbrow streak, forcing Josh to go across town for a set of seats.
Helen from Gossling has come to perform at Josh & Jenna’s ‘wedding’. The last fifteen minutes are chaotic with a blown over vase tipping the cake off of the table! It’s covered in grass!
Five minutes remain as the contestants deal with the cake situation. Meanwhile, wind creates havoc elsewhere and the contestants only JUST finish.
It’s now time for judging, a job that goes to David Grant, an award winning stage producer.
Polly & Waz’s Wedding: David loved it but says it is old fashioned and should have been more contemporary.
Josh & Jenna’s Wedding: He thinks they’ve achieved a colourful wedding. He calls it a great use of the space. He says it may start to look more ‘children’s party’ to the guests.
Result: Josh & Jenna’s team wins! This means $2,500 goes to Dan & Dani and Mike & Andrew. And of course Josh & Jenna gets the satisfaction of beating Polly & Waz again!
The Block next airs Jun 12 at 7PM on Nine.
