Domestic Blitz: The Block To The Rescue (RECAP)

So The Block has ended, but we can’t get enough of it as tonight, the Block-heads reunite for a good cause! Heartwarming.

To begin, we’re reminded of last week’s final before hearing about this special. So what’s this all about?

Task: Kelly & Michael Wilson have three children. On Christmas Eve last year, Michael was killed while performing a helicopter rescue. He was a true hero; what a painstaking story. Tonight, Scott Cam, Jamie Durie, the Block-Heads and some special guests will blitz their domestic life!

Kelly is surprised at the Sydney Children’s Hospital when she hears the Block contestants will be giving her home a head-to-toe makeover. Kelly and the kids will be going on a holiday while the home is being renovated. They’re taken away in a stretch hummer!

When they are gone, Scott tells them that like The Block, there needs to be a twist!

Twist: They will be split into different teams! Here are the teams and their areas.

Sophie & Dani: Girl’s (Grace & Eliza) Rooms.

Brad & Mike: Hugo’s (the son) Room.

Andrew & Lara: Lounge and Dining Room.

Dan & Scott: Kitchen and Family Room.

Jamie & Dale: Garden.

So who’s doing Kelly’s room?! I guess we’ll find out later. It’s now time to plan. It’s very interesting watching Scott and the sometimes rebellious Dan working together here. Apparently Kelly likes industrial country as a design theme. All I can think of is a tractor, haha. But it sounds funky- I like it!

We find out Hugo has his own viewing atrium in his bedroom! That would be awesome!

Lara and Andrew go out shopping and agree to do Dan’s shopping if he helps with their decon back at the house. Dan does his part, but Lara & Andrew don’t seem to pull up the goods the first time around. Lara goes back out to find some more stuff for Dan.

Meanwhile, Dale is happy to work with Jamie and is impressed with his work ethic. Dale calls Sophie away from her room to help him find a massive BBQ.

All of a sudden, it begins to rain. Scott gets everyone to help outside to get as much done out there as possible. The pergola goes up and the storm rolls in. Unfortunately, there’s not much else they can do and soon, the wind knocks all their scaffolding down, cracking the pergola.

The next day, it’s time to rebuild the backyard after most work was destroyed in the storm. Scott calls in some of Michael’s former workmates to help with the battered backyard. Meanwhile, work is still going on indoors. Dan still can’t find inspiration for country industrial, but after a corny Shelley dream sequence, he seems to get the brief.

Brad & Mike work on Hugo’s bed, which is a flat pack. Here we go!

Julie Goodwin comes around to cook up lunch! Scott jokes about Jamie’s ‘other’ career choice during the process of eating it. Haha.

The house is coming together and the deliveries for furniture are coming so fast, the crew has to utilise a streets-worth of driveways to store it all. Meanwhile, Michael Slater gives a signed cricket bat to fan Hugo (or Brad…to give to Hugo).

That night, the awesome spa comes in and is installed. There is still plenty more to do. With the help of many people, they quickly get it done.

After the break, it is time for the big reveal! The family comes back and to a cheering crowd, they inspect the new house. Hugo is such a funny kid! Such emotional scenes.

The Block couples then come inside for a final thank you! To finish the show, Darren Percival from The Voice sings for the crowd!
