Nine Programming Jul 28-Aug 4. The London 2012 Olympics.

At 9pm Friday July 27, London time, the 2012 London Olympic Games begin with the Opening Ceremony. In Australia, that translates to 6am eastern time (5.30 SA & NT, 4.00am WA) Saturday July 28 and coverage is on Nine (WIN & NBN regionals), simulcast in HD on GEM. Guide correct as at July 17 and subject to changes. Based on Sydney market.

Now for some notes.

1. Guide above is for channel Nine. All Olympic coverage on Nine is simulcast on GEM in HD – see below, after notes for GEM programming – note that Olympics coverage on GEM some nights continues throughout the 6pm news and ACA, and all nights in SA, NT & WA.

2. Nine’s 3D coverage of the Olympics will appear on digital channel 95 in selected areas for those who have 3D TV’s. During the Olympics, a highlights package will run from 11am AEST after London Gold, for about 5 hours. Full details here.

3. Friday Night Football for Friday August 3 & 10 – will be on GEM in ALL markets. Friday Aug 3, there is only the one Friday night game – St George Vs Roosters – which will air live to all markets on GEM (although in WA it looks to be on 1 hour delay for some reason – not sure if intentional or a mistake?). We therefore miss out on two hours of HD Olympics from 7.30-9.30 AEST Friday Aug 3. On Friday August 10, there are two Friday night games, so presumably GEM will cover NRL from 7.30pm-11.30pm AEST on that night.

4. Programming for the following week August 5-11, as well as Sunday August 12 will be much the same as above. The Closing Ceremony will air on Nine from 4.30am AEST Monday August 13 (with possible replay during the day). Then its back to a new schedule for Nine which will include Big Brother at 7pm weekdays, with Up Late show on GO! from 9pm.

Are they going to replay the opening ceremony the same evening? Not many people will be awake at that time.

  • Andrew B

No replay is scheduled. But Foxtel will air the Opening Ceremony as soon as it finishes on Nine. If Nine were to replay, I’d say they would end up doing it during the day on Saturday or even Sunday on GEM. Cant be in the evening as there is actual competition then. 7pm is 10am in London, so things are under way.

They would be foolish not to replay it – that’s normally the most watched part of the Olympics and the most spectacular. At that time of the morning, especially the weekend, don’t expect the ratings to be as spectacular as the ceremony!

Opening Ceremony replay is at 2pm Saturday July 28 on Nine and GEM.
