As we enter the final sprint to the LONDON 2012 Olympic Games, all eyes are on the Australian Athletics team as they compete in their last warm up events before the Games begin.
Foxtel presenter Matt Shirvington caught up with some of the athletes at their customised training facility at Tonbridge School in Kent, where Athletics Australia have set up base camp.
He spoke with Long Jump gold medal favourite Mitchell Watt as he was about to depart for Monaco to compete in the Diamond League.
“Mitchell said he is feeling confident, and he certainly looks fit and up for the challenge. He is hoping for a good final performance in Monaco before hitting London’s main stadium,” said Shirvington.
“He has had a dream run in the lead up to these Games, and will be very hard to beat.”
Shirvington, who was trackside at Crystal Palace when Pearson was beaten by American hurdler Kelly Wells, also caught up with Pearson’s coach, Sharon Hannan, while in Tonbridge.
“Sharon is confident that Sally will respond positively to her loss at Crystal Palace, and she is still very much the one to beat at the Games,” he said today.
