Looking for love can be tricky, but some find it harder than others. Add disability to the equation and it can sometimes seem almost impossible.
The Undateables is an uplifting three-part British series that follows the journeys of several extraordinary singletons as they enter the dating circuit in the pursuit of love.
From a stand-up comedian with Tourettes and a three-foot tall trapeze artist, to a media student with Down’s Syndrome, an amateur poet with a learning disability and a skateboarder with a facial disfigurement, follow them as they take on the world of blind dates, matchmakers and speed dating.
With the help of Searchmate, one of the UK’s leading introduction agencies, and Stars in the Sky, a specialist dating agency for people with learning difficulties, The Undateables explores the realities of looking for love in an image-obsessed world.
In tonight’s first episode, meet Richard, an amateur radio enthusiast, who has Asperger’s. Richard wants to date an ‘older lady’ who hopefully lives within a five-mile radius. Luke is a 23-year-old, stand-up comedian who has Tourette’s. He’s petrified of approaching a girl for fear of calling her a slag – or worse.
How will he cope when he goes on a date with Lucy, a part-time receptionist, who’s never known anyone with Tourette’s before.
Twenty-three-year-old trainee teacher Penny has a genetic disorder that means her bones are extremely brittle and she is also three feet, three inches tall. Her ideal man is a six foot tall policeman. She goes on a date with Max, who is 5ft 11ins, will he measure up?
