More big guns are on show in the Olympic Stadium with Usain Bolt primed to smash the field – and the world record – in the men’s 200m. Aussies hopes lie with – Jeff Riseley (men’s 800m), who will find it tough work against world champion and world record-holder Kenya’s David Rudisha; Kim Mickle and Katherine Mitchell (women’s javelin) who will be measured against the defending champion and world record-holder Czech Republic’s Barbora Spotakova and current world champion Mariya Abakumova; Henry Frayne (triple jump), who will take on local hope Phillips Idowu and American Christian Taylor. The men’s decathlon comes to a close, with new world record holder Ashton Eaton (USA) expected to battle it out with Germany’s Pascal Behrenbruch.

The K4 1000m team of Stewart, Jacob Clear, David Smith and Tate Smith won a silver medal at last year’s World Championships. Australia will be a good chance for the gold if the team can overcome the German crew that won gold at the World titles.
The women’s team includes Naomi Flood, who will partner Lyndsie Fogarty in the K2 500m after making the jump from surf lifesaving to kayaking, Rachel Lovell (K4 500m) who will compete for Australia after previously representing Britain, and Jo Brigden-Jones (K4 500m) who is returning from a serious shoulder injury to compete in London.
