The contestants are still in Dubbo and tonight Sean, Frank and Matt are up for elimination. Before the three have to sing to see who stays and who goes, they along with the other nine men will have to endure rehersals and a fitness challenge.
They set off on Priscilla and head to a footy field where they meet up Stephan Elliott and Jason Donovan. Stephen selects Matt and Adrian as team captains for a game of touch rugby. The boys get penalised for being too good and whoever is, get’s humiliated – first is Adrian. Then on the other hand there is poor Davin who has never played footy, while Matt grew up on AFL – but fine ball skills by all!
Next they head off to rehersals as Hugh tells them that they will be the half time entertainment for a rugby match, dressed as cheer leaders and singing Cyndi Lauper’s “Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun.”
Nathan is hoping there will be security and some of the others are worried how the locals will react – let’s hope not with ping-pong balls! This is the first time they will be really pushed out of their comfort zone.
The 9 who impressed the most go out for a drink at the pub, while the bottom three head off to the Dubbo local Chinese with Hugh (mmm Spring Rolls – oops this isn’t MasterChef). They explain their dissapointment and have all taken it hard and feel like it’s been a kick in the guts mixed with a wake up call.
Kelley Abbey ( remember Jo-Jo in E Street? ) their choreographer and Elizabeth Shaw their vocal coach put the men through their paces and the final three are fighting hard. Matt’s vocals are strong, Frank is excelling in dancing while dear Sean is excellent at being a girl! After just one rehersal it’s back on Priscilla and they go to the pub and meet up with Hugh and Rachael Taylor who challenge them with an improv task. It’s all about those first 30 seconds at an audition and they want to see how the contestants can woo the ‘woman in red’ in that time – harder for some maybe.
Now for the pick up lines and first up is -
Tom – “I thought I would tell you something that everyone is saying behind your back…Nice Arse” hahaha – I love that! Maybe better for a bloke.
Frank – “I’m sorry, are you flirting with me?” She says “No” – all over. Oh Frank.
Rohan – “You look really familiar. You don’t remember? So sorry”
Adrian – He goes up to the table and puts his hand in his drink “Sorry i was just breaking the ice?” LMAO!
Brendan – “Hi my name’s Brendan what’s yours? Nice to meet you. i’m going to get a drink, can I join you” Rachael loved it! Even looked a bit turned on.
Davin – “See how big my hair is?…I’m big all over” Puhlease.
Nathan – “Hi” he then drops a 5 dollar note on the table and says “The other $250,000 is in my room, c’mon”. Yes Nathan, treating a woman like a prostitute ALWAYS works.
Matt – “I’m not trying to impress you – but I’m Batman” That’s funny. Rachael and Hugh like it too.
Sean – Kisses her hand and says “Lovely to meet you” – Sean explains it was either that or “Hiii – Lurve the dress.”
Stephen – “I just found your bag, so we’ve got to go home.” Huh?
Mike – Does a magic trick and produces flowers – Rachael falls for it, urrgh.
Jamie – “Oh My God are they Ferragamo’s? Beautiful Darling, would love to see the rest of your collection sometime” (Highly sort after shoes for the uninitiated) Jamie – I love you!
The winner though is … Matt! Well deserved. Mind you he could just be in a bar and I’d use a line on him!
The boys rehearse again and Abbey gives the boys a pep talk as Sean starts to fall apart – I think it’s au revoir Sean. The bus will stop for the one in the final three that fails to impress the judges. First we have to have the rugby performance.
At Victoria Park the Dubbo Rhino’s take on the Parke’s Boars while the men get glammed up in drag. Make up artist and BAFTA winner Cassie Hanlon, who did the movie, musical and now the TV show is absolutely amazing. God they look good – we have Stephen who performs as Marsha Mellow and Tom likes the name – Tess Tickle (Oh my God – I love this show) while Frank performs as Pokeahomo.- Tom suggests another name Urethra Franklin, but says is too hard to get your tongue around (someone chimes in with “Thats what she said” – haha) Davin looks spectacular especially!
Sean is having a melt down and Nathan tries to help him – God bless Hi-5! As the guys get ready there are problems with chicken fillets (bra inserts for those not in the know). Tim Chappell who won an Oscar for designing the clothes in movie has created the costumes and innuendo has turned into your end though. have I mentioned yet this show makes me laugh and I love it? Honestly, these guys need a good wax!
On a soggy day it’s time for the performance. Dubbo cheer the blokes on and they set off into “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and their sheer leading. It’s a fab performance and is like “Mickey” by Toni Basil in the 21st century. Unfortunately Sean sounds SHOCKING! Bye bye Sean I think. Matt will be safe thank goodness – in my opinion.
The footy guys and the crowd went “off their titties” and one of the footballers even admits to dressing in drag – like alot of straight men do and won’t admit. matt is nervous about elimination yet Sean thinks he is safe. Now it’s time for the judges to decide. Here is their verdict.
Frank – Stephan knew he had it in him but doesn’t think he can sing. Rachael adored him while Jason think he worked it.
Sean – Jason thinks he had great energy but lacked presence, Stephan see’s the twinkle in his eye’s but Rachael thinks he lacks confidence.
Matt – Rachael thinks could go all the way, Stephan thinks his confidence gave the wrong vibe and he sang the worst, while Jason and Rachael (and me) think he was the strongest.
Stephan and Jason have come to a decision and the final 3 join the top nine for the decision. The first person eliminated from I Will Survive is … Sean. Knew it!
Hugh also does a recap that I will publish here after each episode. I will recap this show for as long it is on – onwhatever channel. Think should be a Foxtel show personally.
I Will Survive will hopefully survive until next Tuesday when the boys head off to Cobar with Asher Keddie from Offspring at 7.30 on Ten
