The X Factor Australia Season Four – The Second Auditions: Joel Goncalves, Vendulka Wichta & Justin Standley

Previous Episode: The X Factor Australia Season Four – Launch & First Auditions

It was a cracker show last night- and the highest rating launch show EVER for The X Factor. Will tonight deliver as well?

The show begins with a montage of clips from One Direction’s visit to Australia. We are reminded that this year, the judges have to throw together a group to replicate the success of One Direction. Now, to the auditions.

Joel Goncalves (Mandatory Justin Bieber Look-Alike)

Singing: The Girl is Mine by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney The Girl Is Mine - The Essential Michael Jackson

Judges’ Verdict: Natalie doesn’t think he will be single for very long. Ronan wonders if he’d like to go into a boy band. Mel is impressed and Guy didn’t expect that voice!

Result: Four yesses and Joel is through!

Matt Cenere (looks like a bit of a gangsta but isn’t well off; he wants to help his family)

Singing: Lego House by Ed Sheeran (unexpected!) Lego House - +

Judges’ Verdict: Guy says his audition is why he does this show. He loved it. Mel did not expect what he delivered. Natalie loved his voice and would buy his music. Ronan thinks he has everything.

Can’t say I agree completely; he was good, but a little shaky. I was hoping for a bit more.

Result: Four yesses!

Vendulka Wichta (14-year old from Cooma)

Singing: Blackbird by The Beatles Blackbird - The Beatles (White Album)

Judges’ Verdict: I for one watched this OVER and OVER again! Amazing. Ronan gives her a hug! Guy calls her incredible and calls her gift ‘mature’. He was mesmerised by the performance and wants to hear more. Mel says she has upped the game for everybody. Natalie calls her well about her years and claims to be speechless. Ronan says she ticks all the boxes. She has the X Factor.

Result: Four yesses! Obviously!

Andy & Steve MacKay (Parislane)

Singing: Jumpstart by These Kids Wear Crowns Jumpstart - These Kids Wear Crowns

Judges’ Verdict: Firstly; these guys are bloody hilarious- you have to give them that! They’re already jumping up on the judges’ table. Natalie likes their energy but not their singing. Ronan didn’t think much of them. Guy thinks they milked this for a cheeky pash one of the brothers gave an audience member! Mel calls it shocking.

Result: They get a yes from Natalie- but a ‘no’ from everyone else! They promise to be back next year.

Angel Tupai (Vocal teacher from Sydney)

Singing: Big White Room by Jessie J Big White Room (Live) - Who You Are (Platinum Edition)

Judges’ Verdict: Guy calls her the birth of a new Australian diva. Mel says she is the best singer they’ve seen. Natalie calls her unbelievable and says she is here to stay. Ronan wants her up on stage with the likes of Mariah Carey.

Result: Four obvious yesses.

Justin Standley (41-year old country dude who hopes his children, who he hasn’t seen for years, are watching him)

Singing: Rocket Man by Elton John Rocket Man - Michael Parkinson - My Life In Music

Judges’ Verdict: Ronan says he ‘properly’ sang the song. Guy loved how he sang from the heart and called it captivating. Mel is SO excited, she loved it.

Result: YES from everyone!

The X Factor Australia next airs Aug 22 at 7.30PM on Seven

    hi courtney
    good to see your review.
the other tv blog site (tv9tonight) is just so bias and pro 9.
when the voice was rating, all you see on their page is the voice,
they heavily promote bb too (heaps of news, surveys about bb)
now that x-factor is rating, only 1 side news on the blog.
