House Husbands Review - Better Than Expected

Ok – House Husbands – here is my review! I LIKED IT! I laughed a lot and am sure that any parent of a child in kindergarten will love it – or any parent for that matter. But for hitting the demo’s – very unsure. Don’t get we wrong – it’s good. It’s definitely aimed at the 25- 54 year old demo that Nine are aiming for watching it. That’s their aim – and they have nailed it!

Also not sure of the Sunday 8.30pm timeslot. I was thinking more of a weekday at 7.30pm for a Rafters feeling show, but due to Big Brother they can’t. The show starts off brilliantly and even has a Keanu Reeves “Speed” inspired chase. Unfortunately for me there are many flaws in legal and medical facts, yet probably won’t affect the average viewer. Starting out as a comedy and going into almost heavy drama, all things aside, it is GREAT to see a show with such diversity, keeping up with modern times and representing the average community.

The highlights are the Underbelly stars Firass Dirani (charming) and Gyton Grantley (so loveable) – warm, ferociously real, touching and I must say I enjoyed. It starts off better than it ends but is worth a go in my opinion. House Husbands airs on Sundays at 8.30pm on Nine.

Was godawful. How can anyone accept 5 year olds driving a bloody bus?? Pure insanity, and lost credibility straight away….and then to charge the guy for driving without a licence??? Please.

Never mind the lame plotting… What about the sexism? Imagine a show called “House Wives” in which the four tltle characters were ALL clueless losers? They quake with fear waiting to see the school principal. One of them ditches work on her first day to take part in a silly search for a missing, medicated assistant principal. Another buys chicken pies retail and passes them off as her own to curry favour with other parents. Yet another has not the slightest clue about looking after a six month old, despite having older twins… It was absurdity piled on absurdity, laced with barely concealed contempt for men. Yet Nine is attempting to sell the show as a fresh, contemporary look at fathers who care for children. Their cynicism is breathtaking.

Had to switch off halfway. Stupid, unfunny “funny” episodes like the bus, lame dialogue, horrible acting (what happened to Gyton Grantley’s skills?). Not going to give it another go. Worse than expected, I’m afraid.
