It is reported thar Randy Jackson is officially leaving the judge’s table at American Idol, but will still remain a part of the show as a “mentor.” A fourth judge is set to line up against Mariah Carey Nicki minaj and … wait for it – Keith Urban?
Sources connected to “Idol” say Jackson will merge into a mentor role because they feel they need him as he’s the glue that helps keep the show together. They also say that Nicki Minaj’s deal is 99% done as his replacement, but still not a sure thing just yet.
Mariah Carey apparently isn’t a fan of Minaj and doesn’t want her at the table, a fact producers love because they think the conflict and tension will be good for the show.
Keith Urban is also in apparent deep negotiations with “American Idol” but the deal has NOT been signed TMZ (very official – NOT) has said. But there was no mention of his commitments to The VoicenbAustralia, which would clash with Idol. Seeing it’s success here compared to the flaggisng American Idol ratings, I think he may be safer on our home shores.
Keith would be replacing Randy Jackson, but he hasn’t officially signed the dotted line just yet. He’s still working out a few contract kinks, but it’s pretty much a lock, TMZ say.
They also quote he’ll be receiving roughly $3-4 million for his hard work — about half what Nicki Minaj is expected to make … and a paltry fraction of Mariah’s $18 million paycheck. I think Nine would match that though after the success of The Voice.
There will be a 4th judge this season, but have seen that no one has been picked for that spot. But here’s what we do know … “Idol” honchos want a man for the 4th spot, because they don ‘t think this show will work with 2 women and a man.
