Previous Episode: The X Factor Australia Season Four – The 2012 Top Twelve Decided!
Tonight, the top twelve sing live for the first time- and they’re singing from a playlist decided by their mentors. How will the first live show of 2012 pan out?
OK, so after a few first minute usuals- like the judges coming out on stage, a quick look at the top twelve and a quick chat with the judges with host Luke Jacobz, we’re into it!
What About Tonight
Singing: Glad You Came by The Wanted
Judges’ Comments: Mel B loved the song choice, Guy could hardly hear them over the screams of the crowd (a good thing) and Ronan is proud of them. Natalie loved it.
Josh Brookes
Singing: Don’t Want To Go Home by Jason Derulo
Judges’ Comments: Ronan calls him bloody brilliant and Natalie says it feels as if he’s in his element and compliments the song choice. Guy calls him a fighter and loved it. Mel congratulates him. She’s proud of him.
Angel Tupai
Judges’ Comments: Guy loved it, calling her incredible. Mel said she looked like a goddess, calling her amazing. Ronan damns Natalie, saying he had goose bumps. Natalie says it was so wonderful seeing her up there.
Justin Standley
Singing: Father & Son by Cat Stevens
Judges’ Comments: Mel can see that his heart is open and his voice represents that. Ronan hasn’t heard the song sung with so much heart. He deserves to be here. Natalie agrees. Guy is obviously elated with him.
Fourtunate
Judges’ Comments: Natalie loves how they can move and sing. She did feel that the beginning was lacking in divine vocals that they can give. Guy loves what they bring to the competition. He agrees with Natalie and also criticises song choice. Mel says they bring something different to the competition and that they were great. Ronan says their vocal wasn’t the best but they’re only going to get better.
Jason Owen
Singing: Heaven by Bryan Adams
Judges’ Comments: Ronan feels it wasn’t his best vocal, but he sung it with so much heart. Natalie loves his new physique and liked the vocal. Guy really didn’t like it at all. Mel thinks it was great how he sung it with passion and heart and called it a great start. Did she just drop the ‘F’ bomb there?
Samantha Jade
Singing: Wide Awake by Katy Perry
Judges’ Comments: Mel would have liked her to do the song without her massive dress. Ronan thought the stage set up was brilliant. He calls her vocal better than Katy Perry. Natalie thinks she is ready to be a pop star and thought she looked beautiful. Guy calls her a singer’s singer.
Adil Memom
Singing: Fast Car by Tracy Chapman
Judges’ Comments: Ronan says the performance was great but tells him to shake off the ‘I’m having a rough ride’ act. Natalie loves his voice but wants him to connect to the lyrics. Guy thinks there is more to him than sex appeal. Mel thinks he showed a different side to him and played the guitar well.
Formed Boyband (now called The Collective)
Judges’ Comments: Natalie calls them phenomenal. She thought it sounded like a guest act. Guy agrees. Mel also flows with compliments. Ronan thinks it was the best performance on ANY X Factor anywhere in the world.
Bella Ferraro
Singing: Brother by Matt Corby (love it when an X Factor contestant has to sing a song from an ex-Australian Idol contestant- especially one that flew relatively low until recently)
Judges’ Comments: Mel loves her voice but the song choice wasn’t right for her. Apparently Guy was supposed to talk first. Guy disagrees and calls Bella special. Guy didn’t really like the end of it. Ronan calls her performance beautiful and loved the song choice. Natalie, of course, is ecstatic.
Nathaniel Willemse
Singing: Love on Top by Nathaniel Willemse
Judges’ Comments: Mel calls it an incredible performance and calls his voice ‘bloody marvellous’. Ronan says he has a lot of soul but the song was too high for him at the end. Natalie says it makes her feel like going down a chocolate-y slippery dip.
Shiane Hawke
Singing: Crazy by Gnarls Barkley
Judges’ Comments: Guy calls Shiane ‘a little sapphire’ and calls the performance ‘different’. She felt a bit lost at times. Mel thinks she is great at what she does but doesn’t like the song choice or the production. Ronan disagrees and loves her confidence.
