Tonight the five remaining boys have ditched the bus and head to Los Angeles. From starting in Sydney and travelling by Priscilla to the outback – the boys are now hitting the final stretch.
In the city of angels, they head to Beverley Hills. They are all excited as Jason, their driver, takes them to a swish new pad in 90210. Poor Tom thinks he’ll get a stitch just walking from one table to the next, God bless. After a quick chat to Hugh Sheridan they hit the pool to recharge the batteries, while Nathan serenades them!
Off to Venice Beach they have an urban dance challenge with the leading dance troupe the Groovaloos. Rohan is a bit apprehensive as he feels he’s a bit long in the tooth for street dancing. After a one hour dance lesson the boys hit the stage and each has a solo. The guys are loving it and they are all fab! The girls in the audience are fancying young Stephen.
The next day the guys prepare for their solo’s and tension is high. There will be only be a bottom two from now on as the competition gets closer. At the historic Palace Theatre that has hosted the likes of Al Jolson, Harry Houdini, The Marx Brothers and WC Fields, the boys will perform in front of not only Jason and Stephan, but also guest judge Natalie Imbruglia. Now for the performances.
Nathan – Sings – “Forget You” by Cee Lo Green. He rocks it out and has great stage presence and the other contestants are bopping away.
Jason – Thought it wass pretty damn good but needed more of a build.
Natalie – Agrees with Jason that it needed a little more light and shade and a magic moment, but really enjoyed it
Mike – “Sober” by P!NK – maybe am too much of a P!NK fan to appreciate it. It’s good but I didn’t FEEL it!
Natalie – Big energy and loved his tone but has to watch his pitch and shouldn’t push to hard.
Stephen – Amy Winehouses “Rehab” – Nathan is rolling his eyes (shut up Nathan) I tink it’s awesome. God now Jason is rolling is eyes. I loved te performance – was more than just singing, was a mini show in itself.
Jason – You aren’t like Amy Winehouse but you brought her to the performance. The vocals were in tune and sounded great to me. You showed a different side to you and shows you are on the journey to being a triple threat.
Stephan – Bold choice – but was it the right choice? Stephan replies – Yes as showed a different side to him rather than jut musical theatre.
Natalie – I thought you seemed out of it too much the character took over from you.
Rohan – “Is It Any Wonder” by Keane – I really loved this even though dumb old me doesn’t know the song. Jason seems stressed about it though!
Jason – I thought your voice was quite flat and I got a bit bored.
Stephan – I think your being unnecessarily harsh there. I was scared when I heard you were doing that song, but great job.
Natalie – I noticed the eye contact and you connected. I loved the Bowie-esque quality to your voice. I could see you were nervous in the beginning though. Great job though.
Tom -”Mercy” by Duffy. Stephan is almost drooling and understandably he’s amazing. The voice the performance – WOW!
Natalie – You have an exceptional voice. You were incredibly sexy, you are a triple threat and it was an amazing performance.
In deliberation the judges decide that Rohan and Stephen should be in the bottom two – suprise, suprise that I disagree. I think Mike was the weakest this week, but the talent is just so strong now. Stephan says that by now Rohan should be over the nerves this far into the comp and Stephen got lost in the character. Stephen is devestated as he really felt that he had made a bold choice – I agree.
Back at the house they find out that the bottom two will have to sing Adele’s “Someone Like You” – a toughy! They will only have one chance at singing the track at the recording studio and Will.I.Am pops in and tells them not to sing there heart out, but sing with their heart.
Stephen is up first and is raw and sounds truly beautiful and wow he nails the chorus – what lungs! I loved it and Stephan thinks he nailed it too! Rohan starts his attempt and sounds like he’s mumbling a bit to me and the chorus doesn’t have the power that Stephen’s did. Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE ROHAN, but tonight has to be his turn unfortunately. Oh no, I wrote that and Rohan is on TV crying and I feel like a wench!
The judges are mulling it over and think one of them was pitchy and he over produced the song so it wasn’t a pop song – well I wouldn’t call Adele bloody pop in the first place.
Rohan – they think was the performance from him they had been waiting for. It was clean, clear, honest and emotional but verged on musical theatre.
Stephen – He was in the zone, his voice was warm and emotional and he sold it from his heart but was overproduced.
In the studio Rohan was better yet Stephen was better on stage – the judges decide that this is the last stop for Stephen! I really don’t get this show!
He thanks everyone for the journey and he says he wins either way – on to Vegas or home to his wife! God bless him! Bye Stephen!
Nathan, Rohan, Tom and Mike now set of on Priscilla 2 for Vegas and Nathan is driving as they hit the Yankee desert! Haha they don’t know how to get there – it’s one big road for heaven’s sake! Nice made for TV moment I guess.
Next week we will see the boys perform with The Chippendales (wonder if it’s the ones from Amazing Race?!?)
The exit interview with the lovely Stephen will be up shortly!
