The New Boom
We don't have to tell you about the world fuel crisis, we all feel the pain every time we drive into a service station. But here's something you may not know. There is an answer and part of it's right here in our own backyard. We are talking about shale oil. There are huge deposits here in Australia, just waiting to be exploited. Then there are oil sands, which are already being mined on a massive scale in the wilds of Canada. It's an amazing sight, this new frontier. With tales of untold riches and untapped oil, enough to last more than a hundred years. But, as Liam Bartlett discovered, there is a catch.
Wake-Up Call
So, how did YOU sleep last night? If you had a rough time, if you're feeling tired, lethargic and grumpy - we understand. And Peter Overton knows what it's like because he has just been part of a remarkable and very revealing experiment to find out what happens to us when we don't get enough sleep. Peter had to stay awake for more than 30 hours and, this Sunday night, you'll see what a mess that made of his brain. And what's more, it might give you some insight into why teenage kids can be so hard to handle. But even more startling are the long-term effects. They show, without doubt, why we can't live without a good night's sleep.
The Long Run
Here's a trivia question for you. What's the biggest selling album ever in America? No, it's not the Beatles, the Stones or Michael Jackson - give up? It's the Eagles Greatest Hits 1971-75; and it's still selling strongly. So you can imagine the excitement a few months ago when they released their first new album in almost 30 years. But like everything the Eagles have ever done, it wasn't an easy or peaceful process. Which is probably why you've never seen them sit down together for a television interview. Just this once, though, they've broken the habit of a lifetime and made an exception for Steve Kroft.
