A Mother's Story
Is it just us, or has something gone terribly wrong with the way we protect our kids. Why can't we prevent these nightmares? Little ones starved to death, others left to fend for themselves like animals. Then, this past week, the horror that claimed two young lives. And just a few days earlier, three children - aged seven, five and 18 months - killed by their own father. Another terrible case of vulnerable children left in a perilous situation. On Sunday night, we'll try to make some sense of it all, with a mother's own story. A courageous Karen Bell tells how a moment of madness destroyed her family.

Still Life
You're about to witness a miracle, revealing a secret locked away in our brains. Astonishing surgery that's transformed lives forever, changed human wrecks into happy human beings. They call it deep brain stimulation and it really has to be seen to be believed. It's an intricate operation, performed while the patient is actually conscious, guiding the surgeon on his way. Breathtaking stuff that's already been successful for patients with Parkinson's disease, Tourette's Syndrome and even depression. As Peter Overton reports, it can be risky but it's a risk the unfortunate victims are only too willing to take.

The Garden of Eden
It's hard to believe there are any new frontiers still left on earth. Places untouched by man. So when a group of scientists found a hidden Garden of Eden on the Indonesian side of New Guinea, it made news around the world. Here was a pristine rainforest just as it was five, ten thousand years ago. And adding to the excitement, the team announced they'd discovered dozens of new species of plants and wildlife. Sound like a great story? You bet. The only problem is, this paradise is about as far as you can get from civilisation or anything, for that matter. But as Bob Simon found out, getting there is half the fun.
