Tuesday 13 November: 10:05pm A Year In The Art Life
A Year in the Art Life takes a look back at the year that was in visual art. From competitions, prizes, the art market and exhibitions to scandals, thefts and fakes, the program surveys the good, the bad and ugly in contemporary art.
Featuring interviews with leading curators, art market advisors, pundits and commentators A Year in the Art Life is perhaps the only show of its kind on the ABC - a compacted compilation of hundreds of hours of archive material set to a soundtrack of regrettable 70s synthesizer classics with a host lost on a putt putt golf course.
The show looks at some of the big moments of the past year - Australia's six artists at the Venice Biennale, the rise of the $1 million painting, the phenomenon of the blockbuster touring show, the artist who got ripped off on eBay, the campaign for resale royalty, a platinum skull worth $100 million, video art at auction, the fake Van Gogh that embarrassed the National Gallery of Victoria, the energy of artist-run galleries and the painting stolen from the Art Gallery of NSW.
Written and presented by Andrew Frost and directed by Brendan Fletcher, the team who created the popular ABC series The Art Life, this special end-of-year stock footage extravaganza will be broadcast on Tuesday November 13 at 10:05pm.
