Host Hamish McLachlan along with comedians, AFL commentators, and two of Australia’s most glamorous women are set to combine to take an entertaining and sometimes-irreverent look at AFL season 2008.

Channel Seven takes a fun and light-hearted approach to the AFL season’s highlights in a 90-minute special, The Season’s Best, as Grand Final week builds towards the big game.

The Season’s Best will highlight some of the biggest hits, best marks and goals, coaches’ dummy spits and clangers, along with a look at the lighter side of the game. And reveal exclusively who superstars Gary Ablett Jnr and Brent Harvey rate as their top seven players.

Tim Watson, Jason Akermanis and Andrew Welsh will all appear as we remember the moments that have made season 2008 so memorable.

The AFL season reaches its crescendo with that one day in September. Seven Sport has all the action live from the biggest day on the AFL calendar, the AFL Grand Final.

The improving Tigers will be confident of toppling the Demons for the second time in 2008, but with a review of the Tiger’s football department already claiming one scalp, all of the Tigers will be on notice.

Meanwhile, the Demons will be looking at a host of young players and who will be with them as they re-build for the future. See all the action as the co-tenants do battle at the MCG.

Still missing suspended stars Heath Shaw and Alan Didak, Collingwood is in desperate need to secure four points to salvage something from the season.

Fremantle will be trying to salvage something from a disastrous season by allowing some of its youngsters more game time. Collingwood will be aiming to chalk up only its third victory ever against Fremantle at Subiaco.

This is the quintessential ‘eight point’ game as both sides battle to cement a spot in the final eight.

St Kilda won a two-point thriller the last time these two teams met with Lenny Hayes collecting three Brownlow votes. Expect fireworks at Telstra Dome as the Saints and the Crows stake September claims.

Finals contender St Kilda has lost its last two clashes against Port Adelaide, both of which have been at AAMI Stadium.

But the Saints will go in confident against a Port Adelaide team that has struggled all year. Interestingly, Port won the Round 6 clash against the Saints by 21 points with Kane Cornes racking up 33 disposals. These two teams haven’t played at Telstra Dome since 2002, so home ground advantage will be a strong factor as the Saints make a dash for September action.

Sydney lost to the Bulldogs by 18 points at the SCG in Round 7 ending a five match winning streak against the Bulldogs.

Adam Cooney starred picking up 25 disposals and booting five goals for the Bulldogs. The Swans will want this victory to stay on track for the top four, while the Bulldogs look to increase its chances of a home final with another win. This potential finals preview match comes from Manuka Oval.

Collingwood will need to stop Hawthorn’s power forwards to have a chance, while the Hawks will need to quell Collingwood’s tackling and intensity. Hawks Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead each kicked six goals when the two clubs met in Round 7, while Mark Williams also kicked five goals as the Hawks ran out 65 point winners. All the action comes from the MCG as the Magpies look to turn the tables on the Hawks.

North Melbourne will fancy its chances of beating cellar dweller Melbourne to stay in touch with the top eight.

Reigning premier Geelong is again marching towards that one day September, while contender Hawthorn plays with an attitude and toughness perfectly suited for September action. All eyes will be on Hawthorn’s power forwards and Geelong’s star-studded midfield at the MCG in what could be the game of the year.

The Showdown in Round 3 this year was rated by some pundits as the best and toughest game of the year.

Adelaide won by six points with Scott Thompson racking up 27 possessions, while Shaun Burgoyne kicked four goals for the losers. Despite coach Mark Williams calling ‘off’ its chance of finals, Port will be keen to regain local bragging rights after the Crows have won the last three Showdowns.

Melbourne has shown signs of improvement on and off the field under new chairman Jim Stynes, while the Bulldogs have mounted a strong case for a top four finish and a good tilt at the flag.

The Demons won the last clash between these two clubs as the Bulldogs 2007 season faded badly, but expect a much stronger showing from the hard running Bulldogs at Telstra Dome.

Sydney has won the last six clashes against the Hawks and three of those have been at the venue of this match – the MCG.

Both teams are challenging hard for a top four finish, but the Swans will be confident after demolishing the Hawks by 72 points in Round 22 last year.

Mick Malthouse will need his Magpies to bring their ‘’A’ game for this clash against the spirited Kangaroos.

North Melbourne snuck home by seven-points in the Round 5 clash against Collingwood with Brent Harvey racking up 34 disposals, while Paul Medhurst kicked five goals for the Pies.

Both sides will be desperate to make its September claims in this Friday Night Football clash at Telstra Dome.
