In part one of the eighth season premiere, 32 aspiring models are flown to Los Angeles, where they are immediately thrust into Model Boot-Camp with J. Alexander and Jay Manuel. They are put to the test with a quick photo shoot and quiz on fashion related knowledge.

The girls get a chance to meet Tyra, who gives them a military-style talk, before catfights erupt as different personalities clash.

After the boot camp, the field is pared down to 20 contestants.

At a party hosted by Marc Ecko, the contestants each have their pictures taken and the final 13 are chosen based on these photos. The lucky 13 then move into a Hollywood Hills mansion and participate in a controversial photo shoot with Nigel Barker in which they must strike poses for political causes.
