After an exhausting but rewarding round of auditions that saw our judges and hosts travelling from Albany to Cairns and Melbourne to London, the cream of the crop were flown to Sydney to embark on TO P 100 week. 106 contestants arrived at the start of the week, 24 remained by the end – their journey is compiled into one episode that will go to air Sunday 31 August.
Throughout the week, the judges put the contestants through their paces, testing them vocally and emotionally. For some contestants, their dreams are realised, for others their dreams are shattered.
For those contestants who made it through to the TO P 40, they were faced with a surprise, an exciting new challenge which required them to sing LIVE in front of a theatre packed with an audience - a feat which challenges some, and breaks others. This is their last chance to sing for the judges, their last opportunity to prove they have what it takes to make it into the Top 24.
The reveal of the Australian Idol 2008 Top 24 concludes Sunday night's episode, with the Semi-Final week commencing Monday 1 September, LIVE from Australian Idol's home at Fox Studios in Sydney.
Each week night, Monday through to Thursday, six contestants (mixed groups of males and females) perform for the viewers vote. The following night the verdict is announced, with the male and female with the highest votes making it through to the Top 12.
As always, the Idol contestants have full creative control over their song choices, along with guidance from Idol's long-standing Musical Director, John Foreman and Vocal Coach Erana Clark.
For the contestants who don’t make it through, their Australian Idol journey won’t necessarily be over. A number of contestants will be selected by the judges for a second chance at becoming an Idol finalist by performing in the Wild Card show on Sunday 7 September.
* This year's Australian Idol TO P 100 will consist of:
NSW 20 finalists (8 females and 12 males)
QLD 17 finalists (11 females and 6 males)
SA 6 finalists (2 females and 4 males)
TA S 2 finalist (1 male and 1 female)
VIC 36 finalists (19 females and 17 males)
WA 17 finalists from (10 females and 7 males)

When will Channel 10 learn that ANYTHING with the bigmouth, rude, ageist, chauvanist Sandilands as a host, will not rate. I'm a parent who probably would have let their children watch BB this year but when Kyle Sandilands was put up as host it was a definite no no. Even the children did not really want to watch it while he was involved - I can only wonder if Idol will travel the same dead-end street.
