Apparently it's the closest vote they've ever had on Australian Idol with less than 1% between them.

The first performance of the night goes to the Young Divas with Young Divas - Turn Me Loose - Single - Turn Me Loose Turn Me Loose featuring Kiwi rapper Savage Savage.

Last year's winner Damien Leith sings Damien Leith - Where We Land - All I Want Is You All I want is You.

A few weeks ago, Natalie Gauci sang one of their songs and for the first time in a very long time The Divinyls perform Divinyls - Essential - Boys in Town Boys in Town.

Oops. A bit of a blunder somewhere. Who kicked the plug out of the feed? Oh well.. the Divinyls are playing again now. Too bad if you didn't like their performance first time around.

Jumping at the chance to make the most of the Australian Idol grand final is Shannon Noll who sings his newly released single Shannon Noll - Turn It Up - In Pieces In Pieces.

The judges from So You Think You Can Dance introduce a selection of twenty of the top 100 of the contestants who will compete on the show in 2008 also on Ten who dance a choreographed piece to Amanda Bynes, Elijah Kelley, John Travolta, Nikki Blonsky, Queen Latifah & Zac Efron - Hairspray (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - You Can't Stop the Beat Can't Stop The Beat. Talk about promos!

Rogue Traders then rock the stage with Rogue Traders - Better In the Dark - I Never Liked You I Never Liked You.

The voting lines are closed. That's it people. The final counting is being done and all we need now is for Natalie Gauci and Matt Corby to arrive.

Is anyone taking odds on how long Australian Idol will go over time tonight?

Matt and Nat finally arrive to the cheers, screams and signs from their adoring fans as they make their way through the thronging masses towards the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

The Fireworks blaze across the sky as they make their way inside for the final part of the show and then the top 12 sing The Definitive Collection - All Night Long (All Night) All Night Long with Lionel Richie.

We lost all coverage towards the end of idol in Canberra. Stopped just before they were going to anounce the winner. How annoying!

Right, Regan has to go, so I'll finish the recap. So yes, Lionel Richie popped up singing with the Top 12, and typically, most of the Top 12 are better singers than him. No surprise, that's how it is at the American Idol finals as well, the contestants almost always sing better than the established artists.

And now we have a recap of the show from Top 100 to now.

And now we have more dancing. Ten is really rolling out the cross promotion on So You Think You Can Dance. But it's okay, here come Matt and Natalie singing "Somewhere" from West Side Story. Oh, but it's a medley. Now they're singing "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys. And so on and so on.

Now, we have a recap of Natalie's journey, a lovely recorded message from Natalie's grandparents, and a live crossover to Natalie's family. But wait, they lied, Natalie grandparents were actually there are the Opera House, and they come out on them stage to greet her.

Natalie again performs Man In The Mirror.

Now, we're done plugging Natalie, we're on to plugging Matt. First a recap of his journey. And then a crossover to his mates back in Cronulla, another mate shows up at the Opera House and they have a chat.

Then Matt performs Bittersweet Symphony one more time.

The Top 12 performs one more time: Hands Open by Snow Patrol.

Now, apparently there was a competition where a home viewer won a car, and nominated a finalist to win a car too. And the winner was Holly Weinhert. James comments that she must have been pretty impressive in her one Top 12 show before she got eliminated. Indeed.

And now to find out the result.

And the winner is....

NATALIE GAUCI!

I'm glad. Natalie is the owner of the winner's single, and she sings us out with one more rendition of it. Natalie Gauci: Here I Am.

Yes, the Grand Final has been a disaster. At the start of the show, there was nothing except a black screen and then a frozen Australian Idol logo on the screen for a couple of minutes.
Then Andrew G's mic started to play up after they came back from ads.

Then about two thirds through the Divinyls performance, they lost the feed completely, the picture just froze.

Ten took it to a full length ad break, then came back, but all we got was a flickering camera milling around on the outside of the confused crowd.
Ten went back to another full length ad break, brought it back and finally we were back up and running.
Then someone had decided that the Divinyls were going to do their performance over again, which might have been exciting if I could understand anything she was singing.

Why the hell did they have the Young Divas perform "Turn Me Loose" again? There are plenty of other songs on New Attitude for them to perform instead, and they've already performed Turn Me Loose on Idol this year.
