It's the second semi final of Australian Idol. The voting lines are closed and it's time to find out who are the first two to make it into the Top 12 for 2008.
Amazingly, Chrislyn Hamilton is the first member of the Top 12 - if you can believe it! Joining her, is Wes Carr. Not really any surprise with that one.
Not to fret, however. There is still a chance for Nicole Banks, Olly Corpe, Mitchell Steele and Jaden Dowd to make it into the Top 12 with the wildcard show on Sunday.
Tonight, six more perform for your vote:
Luke Dickens

Mustang Sally
I really am bored with contestants who have to get up on stage and affect their voices. It distracts me for enjoying them for what they may actually be capable of doing. Just sing normally!

New Shoes
I really like Brooke's voice. It's quite reminiscent of Regina Spektor but it's rather obvious that she has had some trouble with losing her voice this week. She looks totally dejected after her performance and you can't help but feel sorry for her. It's hard to judge her on that performance and it's cases like this that make weekly eliminations as part of the process of selecting the Top 12 far more appealing. It's going to be a hard road from here for her.
Tom Williams

You Raise Me Up
Candidate for teenage girl vote? You betcha! Tom doesn't have the best voice but he's exactly what this show is about. Pop!
Natalie Colavito

Listen
There is no doubt in my mind that Natalie can sing. Big girl, big voice. But is she an Idol? I'm really not sure.

Who Knew
Great song choice. Amanda slots easily right in alongside Pink and Gwen Stefani. Her only problem is that she may end up being seen as a little unoriginal or imitating others. Particularly when she sings and looks very similar to those other pop artists.
Thanh started off well but there were some shakey notes in there towards the end. It was a very boyband performance and I agree with Dicko that he needs to find his edge.
Tomorrow night it's Brooke Schubert, Matt Parsons, Mark Spano, Sophie Paterson, Roshani Priddis and Teale Jakubenko who will get their turn on the Australian Idol stage.
Voting closes at 6:30pm AEST so make sure you vote!
My picks for the Top 12 are Tom Williams and Thanh Bui.

You're hilarious. To insinuate that I have no brain just because I want you to back up your claims with some answers to some fairly basic questions is a joke.
Any journalist with an ounce of integrity wouldn't just take you at your word. They too would be asking further questions.
I'm more than happy to move on to a further line of questioning but unfortunately the person being asked the questions isn't forthcoming.
I'm sorry, which direct question was that?

It was Col. Mustard in the Library with the Candlestick
Once again: even if I gave you a name or even a date it would still prove nothing... I could make it up and you wouldn't know if it was correct anyway.
but the facts for at least ONE of the people who made it to the top 12 are:
- they were told weeks ago they had made it in - not by public vote but by some other way
- they had their personal life filmed (including their choir) for their story as being part of the top 12 - before the show even went to air.
- and told not to tell anyone that this has occurred
- Then in the last week Channel 10 told the public they could vote to get people into the top 12 when they knew damn well it had already been chosen, meaning that any money raised was under false pretence.
If all you are going to do is say : give us a name/date, then you clearly live in a dream world where you are happy to do and believe anything media tells you. I really pity you....
For anyone else with half a brain... Enjoy the show... but you won't hurt yourself or anyone else by NOT voting...
You will, however, save your money while still getting to freely watch it.
For Regan - you're quite boring now... You don't answer direct questions and it seems you're only capable of saying: "give us a name"...
Take the time to THINK about things that happen in your life... you might end up actually contributing in some small way rather then being just another drone.
I wasted too much time on this pointless "debate" - so I won't bother you guys again... Regan on the other hand probably will.. and falsely claim a victory by doing so... Good for you Regan...
Three cheers for Regan: Hip hip - hooray -- hip hip - hoo... ah couldn't be bothered

The important thing actually is proof of this of which you have provided none other some fairly generic accusations.
The fact that you wont answer some simple questions suggests that you're are, in fact, full of it!

The only important thing in ANY of this is the fact that they are misleading the public into beliving they have a say...
but you're right... you must be... so keep doing what you do...
And think about it - what possible benefit would I have in telling this?
I'm not a disgruntled auditionee (I was always too old when it came out), I don't "hate" the show (I even watch it - sometimes), I don't really even care about it (it's just mindless entertainment)...
it's just that we've been lied to - and I really hate it when people in positions of influence abuse that influence.

I'm not saying that may not be happening. I'm just saying that you're not offering any substantial proof.
When was this filmed? Dates? Locations? Which contestant was this?
These are all valid questions so if you're not prepared to put up, then you know what you should do, right?

Raving Lunatic? well done
Once again - naming the person has no bearing on the Fact that Channel Ten is pulling the wool over YOUR eyes.
But you can vote all you like mate... do whatever you want - I can't and won't stop you - I'm just alerting you to the fact that it would be a WASTED 55 cents each time.. and the average Idol Voter will vote a number of times...
It's just information - you can do with it what you want...

So you won't provide concrete evidence and yet we're just supposed to believe you. Yeah, I can see how relevant proof isn't important.
You post anonymously and wont name the person who is supposedly already guaranteed a place in the top 12 and yet you just expect everyone to take your word that something is amiss? So far you just sound like a raving lunatic with a conspiracy theory.
4 Sep 08 at 10:40 am
The naming of the person is not relevant..
What is relevant is that Channel TEN is lying to the public to get their money.
And quite frankly if you can't figure it out then you really aren't paying attention.

Why not just name the person?
4 Sep 08 at 9:23 am
Yes - way totally
I know people involved with the particular choir...
They were filmed weeks ago and asked not to make it known about the member making the top 12... When I was told - I felt cheated and had to let people know they were being ripped off.
As for filming everyone.. The logistics of that are astounding... there is NO WAY they would spend THAT much time & money to film everyone "just-in-case". One guy I know - who was an editor 2 seasons ago - worked 14 hour days just to get the regular stuff done...
And who picks?... I guess the producers... oh and as another bomb shell - pretty much everything the judges say after the performances is scripted... That would explain all the "nice" comments said that everyone tends to disagree with.
Media watch dogs wouldn't be able to do much - and Channel Ten could argue that it's all in the name of entertainment. and lets face it - in season 1 it was estimated that Channel 10 made nearly $1 mil on sms voting PER EPISODE! Why do you think they might wanna spread that out...
Like I said... I have no problems with shows like this having someone else pick the winner - Talent shows have been doing exactly that for years - it's just they make us think we have a say.
Save your money - sit back and enjoy the show without wasting your cash.

hey in response to anon's comments above about it being rigged -- are you sure?!? no way.. surely there are media watchdogs and rules to say you cant deceive the public like that.
about the choir, maybe they filmed EVERYONE ages ago and just shows the clips for whoever makes it into the top 12??
what do u mean the top 12 was decided weeks ago.. by whom?!
3 Sep 08 at 9:52 pm
Yes I'm certain
100%
3 Sep 08 at 3:35 pm
Why not just name them?
Do you know for sure that the producers didn't film things for each of the Top 24 to splice into the edits in the event that they made it into the Top 12?
If you're sure that it's been rigged then lay a complaint and request an audit.

From 24 to 12 - Don't waste your Vote!
and by that I mean don't make one... You are throwing your money away.
The Top 12 was chosen over a fortnight ago... The top 24 known for more then 2 months. Your sms or phone vote will do NOTHING!
We are given the illusion that we can spend 55 cent an sms and keep our favourite Singer in... THIS IS NOT THE CASE.
The powers that be want you to spend your hard earned dollars on a voting system that has nothing to do with the results.. certainly when it comes to chosing 12 out of 24.
Watch for a certain singers Choir to be featured as the celebrate her top 12 appearance... THEY FILMED IT WEEKS AGO... how could they know she was going to be in the top 12 when the Australian Public hadn't even voted yet?
RIGGED RIGGED RIGGED
It's a joke... I don't mind the idea of someone else chosing the winner... just don;t make us think we actually have a say...
Pathetic Channel 10.
