Tonight on The Whistleblowers, the tragic suicide of a teenage boy and his mother’s determination to expose his school’s failure to support her son draws Ben and Alisha into an investigation into the state of the education system. In search of truth, beware the consequences…

Ben and Alisha are drawn into a fake whistleblowing story when Ian Knowles, a teacher from a chaotic comprehensive school called Challoners, comes to them for help. A teenage boy, Jamie Hillicott, has killed himself and Knowles blames the unchecked bullying and chronic mismanagement at Challoners.

However, Jamie’s bereft mother Linda tells a very different story. She is more concerned about Jamie’s previous school, the recently established City Academy St John’s. She tells them Jamie used to be a high achiever, but had been suffering from serious depression. She begged the school to help him but instead they expelled him, the last straw for Jamie in his vulnerable state.

Alisha, meanwhile, is on the trail of the promised £2 million investment into the school from its sponsor. He’s much more interested in a possible knighthood and pushing his creationist ideals onto the next generation than offering a fair, safe and balanced environment for children to learn.

THE WHISTLEBLOWERS STARS: RICHARD COYLE, INDIRA VARMA, DANIEL RYAN, DOUGLAS HODGE, ALLAN CORDUNER, DAVID THRELFALL, KERRY FOX, JOSETTE SIMON AND PHILIP JACKSON.
